Warning On Profiles

WARNING: Any institution or person using this site or any of its associated sites for study or projects - You do not have my permission to use any of my profile or pictures in any form or forum both current or future. If you have or do, it will be considered a serious violation of my privacy and will be subject to legal ramifications. It is recommended that other members post a similar notice as well.

Can someone explain why most users now have the above included in their profile.

We've noticed a legal disclaimer paragraph that some people have on their profiles, should we have one too? What are they about? Do they do any good?

Our best advice is: Don't put on your public profile any pics you don't want strangers to see. Set them to private and PM to people you want to see them or set to friends only. Similarly, don't put any information on your public profile that you don't want people to see or Google. That will do what a toothless legal notice won't do, which is to keep the information you want to be private, private. Some people may put non-identifying pics on their public profile but keep face pics private or for friends, for example.

Tip: you can set your profile to be hidden from search engines on your privacy page but for various reasons (some search engines ignore the tag we use, for starters) common sense advice would be NOT to put any information on your profile (here, or on any such site) that could identify you! So for your own benefit, don't post phone numbers, real names or email / instant message addresses on your profile.

All the legal disclaimer does is take up extra space on our servers.

And it looks bloody silly at the end of a profile ...

LOL As I thought. Would take more than the threat of legal action (that most likely would not even be pursued in the first place by a member) to make whoever think twice.

Funnily enough, reminds me of members who use up all their profile space telling us about no single males and timewasters etc. Nice touch to add to a profile eh? And very offputting too. Why not just focus on the positive. Too much too ask? Sigh...

Well well I got a fair lashing for doing a similar thread only afew days ago...did i not? asked for opinions and yes did get them but here goes.... this thread is covered in the FAQ at the bottom of the page! (in small print), just glad i'm not the only one who had to ask what it was all about lol.

no u done one, ONE day ago this one was done 3 days ago, u where only told there was other posts in the forums about it and maybe u should have looked before u posted.u decided to take it the wrong way and get all huffy lmao
