Zero sex drive

Jump to newest

Bit of an odd one this; in the past year or so my sex drive had dwindled away to almost zero

I don't think about sex, I don't dream about sex and honestly I don't feel inclined to do it

I used to get excited about dirty weekends or kinky sessions, now I'd as soon as watch TV or read a book..

I'm only 41!!

This is really odd because I'm physically well (I think!) and I lead a enjoyable, healthy and relaxed life!

Has this happened to any other men??

Luckily my wife is a couple of years older and her sex drive is slowing down, so my lack of interest isn't so apparent

A year is quite a long time and you're young.

I'm not a man so can't speak from experience but has anything changed as far as medication, mental health, stress, relationship issues are concerned?

No that's just it, I don't take any medication and I'm active and healthy. I cannot explain it at all, I used to love kinky play in particular but now the desire has just faded away, only rapidly.

I might get a blood test done, maybe it's a hormonal thing.

(Also I appreciate the irony of posting this on a swingers forum)

Most likely drop a in testosterone.

Have your Dr do some tests, it can't hurt - well except the little prick to obtain your blood

A drop in testosterone or simply a need for change.... We are not machines, this may just be a phase you're going through at the moment. Relax, don't worry, don't think about it and see...

There’s a company called medicheck, you can order a kit and send them a blood sample. It’s extremely thorough and will check all hormones and many others things, great for getting an overall picture.

Could be a drop in testosterone or an imbalance between your testosterone and estrogen or other hormones.

Are you on any regular medication or supplements? If so check to see if these could be messing with you hormonally or psychologically.

What’s your diet and activity levels like, do you exercise? A good diet and weight training is great for boosting testosterone levels.

If there is a hormone drop and no other reason than just natural decline with age, you can look at testosterone replacement therapy.

It’s currently easier to get this through a private doctor than the NHS.

Mr

In fact I’m not sure it’s even available for men due to natural aging issues.

I'm the same but I'm 35, sex was all I could think about(mainly) in my 20s early 30s, used to masturbate often, now I masturbate once a month sex drive nose dive of a cliff, but I'm on anxiety medication so that probably doesn't help

I thought I'd reply to this, as although different situation, I had the same problem. 2 years ago I ended up on citalopram due to being driven into a dark place by a, then, debilitating injury.

at the start i had a huge jump in my sex drive. But the last year or so and worse since coming off them, my sex drive has vanished.

But I'm aware ssri's can have massive negative effects on sexual responses and desire.

I appreciate the op has said he's not on any meds, but just mentioning there is so many differing factors that can attribute to loss of desire/responses.

No need to insult the Dr, only doing their job!

You mentioned your wife's sex drive has diminished. Maybe this has had an effect on your own sexual desires. This happened to me when my wife went through menopause. Knowing she was not receptive to my advances and being rejected certainly effected my sex drive.

Given your age I’d suggest getting your bloods checked. Likely suffering from low testosterone.

I'm 38 (jay)

Had this myself...

So the biggest question is at what point did you start to have any concern over your drop? Early on or recently?

Definitely worth getting your hormones checked. Low testosterone is more common then it is diagnosed and more common then a lot of people think!

After starting injectable testosterone last year (on prescription) , and a med to control high prolactin, my sex drive is that of when I was a teenager!! Poor J tries to keep up bless her.

Definitely worth getting it checked.

Otherwise there’s a lot of doctors will throw anti depressants at men and send them on their way . My endocrinologist actually told me it mostly has the opposite effect and makes it worse.

My bipolar meds actually shut me down (long story)

Sounds like low testosterone for sure. They can check your levels at the doctor and prescribe a gel or injection etc.

Or get an optimale- mail order blood test

Low levels of certain vitamins or mineral or as a few others have said low testosterone will all have an effect on your sex drive

Then you can visit your gp and see what they can do or even see a specialist

I found cutting down on simple carbs and healthy eating had a massive effect

Thanks OP for posting this, I've been feeling similar recently.

Wondering how accurate are the home test kit? Are they could enough for the doctor to perscribe anything or would they only accept tests done by the NHS? Bit hard getting an appointment and the moment, same as everywhere else I'm guessing

From the land of haribos.

Yes. I am feeling the same and I have felt so for a long time, but I know why too, it is because I am staying shredded and in a calorie deficit, so that is why my test levels is lower

The home kits are super accurate. All you do is take the blood sample and send it off for testing at a certified lab. Will tell you everything if you pay for a full panel.

Well worth it. Will check blood cell counts, kidneys, liver ect, as well as full hormone count
