What is swinging ?

Just off the back of a post in another thread which has me pondering.

What is swinging ? Like what does it mean to you ?

Does one have to do something specific to obtain true swinger status, or is it a spectrum of different tastes coming together in a pot(or bowl) of swingers ?

To me, swinging is a lot more about couple based and group dynamics.

Not to say singles meeting singles are doing it wrong or anything, but that's what tinder and the like are for to me. People can do whatever they like between consenting adults and call it whatever without it causing any issue to me.

Group parties, clubs, seeing your partner get off, that's more like my perception of swinging.

I describe it as being a buffet of sexual activity.

On the table are casual 1-1 meets, threesomes, foursomes, groups, orgies, dogging, clubs, cuckold, BDSM, etc etc….

You pick the bits you enjoy. Just because you do one, doesn’t mean you should try another. It’s all consensual and non-judgemental.

To me, it means consensual sexual freedom. I think that most people would define it as group fun & as I haven't been involved in many situations involving more than me & one other, I haven't had much 'swinging' experience but would still consider myself a swinger.

Personally I think the true use of the word is fairly specific to couples.

It's the act of bringing in others to your bedroom as a couple.

But that's just my definition, and doesn't mean that single people don't obviously have a huge place in the lifestyle

I like the more modern title of "ethical non-monogamy"...

For me, sex with only one person never really sat right and although I was never unfaithful I didn't really understand why I felt like that. Then I met Mr, we randomly had a conversation about gang bangs one night and it opened up a whole can of worms that this swinging thing was something we both wanted to do, we just hadn't met the right person to share the experience with.

So I feel its sharing sexual experiences with like minded people for mutual pleasure. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk

The honest answer is that the scene has changed over the past 20 years mainly due to the Internet. There was a time when it was predominantly couples based with a few singles whereas now the singles, mainly men, out number couples by a massive amount. As far as ethos goes to us it's about having a liberated come hedonistic attitude towards sex and other activities. That being said choice comes first and foremost.

ethical or consented non-monogamy essentially but interesting that there is little mention and a shift away from the conventional social side of the scene

It's not all about getting one's leg over all the time there is a community of us swingers that all have a common interest sometimes it's just as nice to network and also have friends you can talk openly to
