Hello,

I have cancer and there's a strong possibility that I will end up with a stoma. I was wondering if anyone has any experience of this (unfortunately) and how it affects them? In particular I'm worried about sex and going to swingers clubs.

Thanks

Chris

Firstly sorry to hear what you're going through and I hope you're doing well with your treatment.

Back in October, for ostomy awareness day, I remember seeing a series of posts on linkedin from Convatec, talking about sex and intimacy after ostomy surgery.

If you go the the meplus convatec site I'm pretty sure there were some resources there. Probably won't talk specifically to swinging, but it might be worth a look on there for general advice/info.

Good luck!

Don't worry about. It's not a barrier. Come across people on scene with ones. Some people who have less limbs or a glass eye or mobility considerations too. We all have deviations from the archetypal human form. Success in a club is about character and how we own ourselves rather than our physical deviations. Obviously if you do have one you'll find you way round the practical implications. Just be open about it, most people will not be bothered. But it's nice to have a heads up prior to any more intimate encounters.

Whatever happens just be you and wish you all the best.

I have a friend with a stoma.

It took him a while to get used to it but it has never stopped him being intimate. He's just honest with people about it and most are fine.

I've never been to clubs so can't comment on that.

I have a friend with a stoma. I feel more comfortable when he wears a stoma belt, because I’m clumsy and scared I’ll pull on the bag and hurt him, otherwise NBD.

I think if you search, there are other threads on this issue elsewhere.

Good luck with your journey Dom, I don’t think any of us on the other side can understand the effect this will have on you, both physically and psychologically.

A few years ago, I met a genetic lady at a TV club. We got on fabulously, she was lovely, and had a real laugh. It was quite obvious from early on she had a ‘difference’ in that she was an amputee, and wore an artificial leg, which simply wasn’t a problem. Funnily enough, the conversation started when I thought she had injured her leg, as she walked with a stick. We got on to the point we were going to have some fun, she then said she also had a stoma … which was in no way obvious!, which she said was hidden with a belt… again to me this wasn’t a problem.

I won’t be graphic, but in the bedroom, she removed her leg, she removed her clothes, but left the belt in place… and we had an amazing, insatiable time with each other, in exactly the same way I have done with others. She was a gorgeous lady … and more importantly, a gorgeous person, that’s what it should be about!

There will undoubtedly be some for whom your difference will be unpalatable, and you have to accept that, and some that will move on from it and enjoy you for the person you are, not what you have, or don’t have!

R x

If its a tracheostomy:-

Make sure you've changed the inner cannula before hand to hopefully have less secretions and wear the neck strap so no popping off.

Ive heard silver negus are best.

Humidity or lack off can really dry you out quickly when being vigorous. Ask about HMEs (Heat Moisture exchangers).

Obviously stomas vary you may not need any of the above.

Don't worry about, it keeps you alive and people will get used to it like glasses or hearing aides.

If a female with stoma was mutually attracted then it'll be an icebreaker for me

Many years ago I was seeing a lady who had one. It was just a little tricky at first but we worked our way through. It never stopped us getting into the throws of passion.

Before we got down to business she always made sure to clean it.

It never stopped me from ravishing her. So don't worry to much and enjoy your sex life.

take care

I have a stoma too. Haven't been brave enough to attend a club yet and i haven't had any meets but that's probably more due to me being a single male than anything else . I am open about it on my profile and it's good to know it doesnt bother the majority of people.

I met A guy with A Stoma on various occasions when I was up north

I didn't really give it much thought. He was A great guy and it was just part of him.

And if you meet A nice caring person, then it shouldn't be A problem and if it is, just think about it as their loss.

Firstly and most importantly - I’m sorry to hear your news and wish you every bit of good luck on your journey.

In terms of swinging clubs I’ve been going for years and have found the atmosphere in every club to be welcoming to all. I’ve seen amputees, people in wheelchairs, people with cerebral palsy, ladies who’ve had breasts removed and various other medical conditions including stomas.

Whilst your first time will be daunting for you it may be less so for other people, so I’d suggest having a word with the club staff to ask them if there have been others before you. If there have, you have the reassurance that you’re not breaking new ground as far as the other club goers are concerned.

Good luck in your treatment and in your swinging!

Thank you for your supportive words. It's good to hear that the clubs can be a positive environment in that way.

I have been with a man in the past who had a Stoma and didn't bother me in the slightest. My only question was "is there any way I might hurt you" and once I knew I couldn't then it was full steam ahead to the fun.
