Neurodivergent (ND wonky) greeting

Alice does this great thing. We don't live together and although we are engaged, we have no plans to ever live together.

So, she messages me when she first wakes up. And it's the same message every day. "You ok?" And I fucking love it!

I always hated "How are you?" I then have to evaluate what that means - which could literally be a dozen things - and figure out if it's a real enquiry, before working out how I am and deciding how to express that.

"You ok?" is more direct and honest, to the point, easy to discern and answer.

That's me, any way. Yet, I suspect that I'm not the only ND person who struggles with "how are you?"

I always ask "How's the patient?", if she's not feeling well as this causes no confusion, but gives permission to off load and moan about all of those aches and pains.

I much prefer "You ok?" to "How are you?" for sure. But I still struggle with it sometimes.

I find it depends who asked as to how truthful I can be. Some people ask the question out of politeness and don't expect a real answer.

I've learned to just say I'm ok because then I didn't worry people
