Me and a few friends have been discussing age gap and what is acceptable?

We have a mate who is 31 and his girlfriend is 17 they have dating a few months they both seem really happy.

We’re all on the fence over this and a few have jumped ship what’s your take on it??

The big age gaps are fun. But they usually fizzle out because of the age gap

Age gaps are great, 31 with somebody 14 years older can be fun but a 17 year old girl is a no from me, it's just too young

So see that was our thinking but seeing them together is odd as they seem so well suited it uncanny

The age of maturity would be acceptable at what point would anything be classified as acceptable or not to me closer to my own age even by 10 years would be acceptable but someone old enough to be my own child definitely not

I think it’s great fun. I’m 33 and I have had fun with 18-19yr females and 60yr females.

Half your age plus 7 is the formula I heard. Don't know where!

I wouldn't have sex with someone old enough to be my dad or young enough to be my son.

Yes what I have heard to and seems to be quite sensible but if it works age shouldn't matter as long as it's legal.

I've always liked that. I believe it's called "the french rule."

If you google "age disparity in dating," you'll find a wiki article where it's mentioned.

Age gaps are fine. I’ve always dated men significantly older than me.

Dating someone under 18 when you’re over 18 in my opinion is wrong though

This is true. I read about this that age gaps of 5 years or more are more likely to fail than relationships where the age gap is 3 years or less.

Doesn’t stop me liking men 10+ years older than me though, can’t be helped.

Oh I agree with you here… nothing wrong with an age gap but only past a a certain age. 17 is too young. My last fwb was 14 years my senior and oh my!!

Generally I don't agree with age gaps where the younger party's brain is still developing. Prime targets for abuse. Just my take - Xeno

Age gap is unimportant as long as both are of legal age and consenting.

I have no problem with age gaps. My fwb is 14 years older than me. My personal opinion is that people under the age of 18 should stick around their own age area but I can see how strange it is to disapprove of a 17 year old with a 31 year old but not a 36 year old seeing a 22 year old

Personally I'm extremely uncomfortable with big age gaps as the father of daughters in their 20s and 30s.

What others choose to do is no concern of mine.

Age gaps aren’t for me. At all! Emotional maturity at 17 just isn’t there
