Hey all

I was just wondering if anyone could offer me some advice please.

I've been talking to this girl at work for a couple of months and things were going well. I felt she liked me and I like her

A couple people at work have seen us spending time together and have started to spread rumors.

Since then she's started to act off / awkward with me, pulled back hard, and hasn't really spoken to me properly, other than maybe the polite hello in passing.

I think since these people started spreading rumors that it has made her feel uncomfortable as she's had people saying things to her or making fun of her

I'm not sure what the best way is for me to proceed or approach this situation is, as I really like her, but don't want to come off as too eager or make her feel uncomfortable especially as we are at work.

It's been a couple weeks and we haven't spoke properly, it feels like I've been ghosted, but in the sense I still have to see the person regularly.

I'm just wondering what the best way is for me to bring this up in conversation or approach this situation, rather than not saying anything and there just being this awkward atmosphere/ tension.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

You are about to lose your job.

The young lady is not responding to your interest in her.

And will be feeling uncomfortable and unhappy at her workplace.

She is very likely to report you to management, as being a nuisance, a pest, which will result in your dismissal.

Just leave her alone, she isn't interested in you!

She has probably realised that mixing work and social life can lead to problems down the line and has sensibly shut you down.

Look elsewhere.

She obviously saw you as just a friend to chat with but then detected in your manner that you might want more, women do tend to be intuitive. If a woman is interested, she makes it very clear, this one is obviously not. Pull back and just cool it

It's annoying when rumour-mongers get in the way of things, especially in the workplace. My advice - back away from things for now. If you see her in passing, a quick "hi" should make her aware that you're not trying to force things to happen.

Hopefully, once the dust has settled, you may get back to normal. Either way, the best of luck.

If you are both single and free to court, and you think this might lead to something exceptionally special, given the way the labour market is at the moment I would go jobhunting. Find a new job, then on your last few days ask her out on a date.

If you already know it’s never going to be more than a bit of fun, forget about her and just be your usual professional self.

Remain polite but respect the fact that she is very clearly showing you that for whatever reason she no longer wants to interact with you. If you really feel It's necessary speak to her, tell her you notice she's avoiding contact, you're sorry you're no longer as close and wish her well while reassuring her that you'll respect her wishes.

It might be worth considering that she's just changed her mind or that you unintentionally said or did something that's made her wary of you and this has nothing to do with other people talking.
