A person can be submissive in many different ways, but the defining characteristic is consensual power exchange.

The types of submission most are aware of are service submissive’s (such as maids) and sexual submissive’s (submissive in the bedroom only). There can be other interests (rope and masochism being the top ones people think of), but not all rope bunnies or masochists are submissive's and not all submissive's are rope bunnies or masochists.

A gimp tends to predominately be a sexual submissive who characteristically wears a full body suit and mask made of rubber, pvc or tight leather. They often engage in more stricter D/s protocols such as not speaking, eyes always downcast, not sitting on furniture etc.

So while not all submissive's are gimps, all gimps will be submissive.
