If I send someone a polite message introducing myself and they read it and don't delete it but also don't reply, what should I do?

I don't usually send a second message as I have no wish to pester someone. But Should I send a follow up message after a couple of weeks? or take it as a No?

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a follow-up message in such an instance, as long it is still courteous.

They can block you in a couple of clicks if they feel pestered.

I wouldn’t send a second message . If they have read it and not replied we take that as meaning not interested.

Personally I see no harm in sending a follow up, most if not all my messages have been on the back of follow ups however don’t send a follow up 5 mins later, give it a few days/sometime x

Read but no reply is an interesting one. I always take a delete as a polite no thanks. I'm never really sure what to do about a read message though. I don't think there's a hard and fast rule. I'd be inclined to leave a few days between sending though, if I was going to follow up.

If I read and don't reply it can be for a few reasons. But it's mainly my version of a *must try harder*

Like the profile has bugger all to go on, there is nothing in the message to actually spark a conversation but I'm not saying an outright no.

Best advice is never look at your sent messages and end up fretting about the meaning. If they want to reply they will, there are all sorts of reasons why someone didn’t reply, just don’t end up being a pest . They always have the option of blocking people who they don’t want to chat to.

Do nothing they will message if interested... i dont delete my messages i do a bulk delete every now n then.

Just delete ur send messages and if someone replies good if not move on

For us it can mean we’ve left it there to get back to it at some stage because we’re interested.

Or I’ve left it there till Abby can read it as well.

Just because one of us doesn’t reply immediately it doesn’t mean we’re not interested, we’re just getting on with our lives and will do it when we’ve got time.

If they read your message and didn't reply it could be they are busy or not interested so it's a gamble but remember to accept if they don't reply as a polite not interested

We have a similar issue I'm on here all the time. Char logs on maybe once every four days - although she likes the meets, the admin around it is very low on her priorities. I always feel bad at how long some messages stay unread

I wouldn't send a message again, as it looks pushy.

Also delete sent messages from your outbox, then any reply is a bonus.

We block or put a private note on if someone doesn't reply, so we don't message again.

We’re the other way round, I (V) do all the messaging, I have to prompt Abby every now and again to jump into the conversation if it’s going well.

It works for us but I have zero tolerance for someone throwing a hissy fit because I haven’t answered quickly enough for their liking

The exception is if we were in the middle of a conversation and it was actually going well.

A read message could mean the recipient is considering it but hasn’t yet had opportunity to reply.

Don’t forget couples will receive lot’s of messages.

Speaking for ourselves if we receive a follow up it starts to look desperate so it’s probably better to send the initial message and see if you get a reply.

We we’re looking to meet a single guy and out of 50 messages we arranged a successful meet with just 2 on separate occasions.

I have gone to the trouble of composing a readable message. If its read and not replied to then I make a note on the profile of that fact and move on. I might miss out on someone but that's the risk I am prepared to take. Better that than writing again with the same result or worse.

We get a lot of messages and can’t reply to all.

If it’s inoffensive and not just a “meet me now” cock picture then we don’t delete generally.

We carry on the convo if we’re interested.

I'm always hopeful that messages read but not deleted mean the recipients may be interested, and might reply at a later date...

....however, I'm not naive enough to think that's always the case - most probably my message has simply fallen of the bottom of their inbox page, never to be seen/read again...

Only trouble with deleting messages from their sent box is after 10 minutes they've sent that many random messages that they forget who they've sent to. Then we end up with another 'introductory' message.

It could mean lots of things! Busy with normal life so not had a chance to reply or thinking of how best to reply, not in a position to meet for a while or they are unsure about you so are thinking about it.

Why do some ppl have an "expectation" that because they took time to send a message, it has to be returned?

No one has to be polite and reply to every message they receive. Don't take it personally, we are free xBx
