Taking your own booze

Hi everyone.

So I'm going to a club this weekend for the first time and deciding whether or not I'll take my own booze

I'm not much of a drinker as it is, so wasn't going to take much if I do

But then I thought, it may be a decent gesture to take more than I would drink and share it with others.

What is considered good etiquette when taking booze?

I was thinking maybe a bottle of JD or Vodka, that way it's easily shared.

Did consider a crate of beer, but reckon that might dwindle faster than I'd like

So looking to get some thoughts on the subject

We typically only take what we are planning on consuming as we have noticed everyone brings their own if they are planning on drinking. You can't possibly take a full on bar with you but if we are going with a group then we take a couple of bottles to share. If you are going on your own then like you said a bottle of your favorite drink sounds good, you can offer it out if you want.

Thank you for your reply. Precisely the kind of answer I was looking for

If the club is a "bring your own" place , then take what you want to drink. Sometimes people take a bottle of spirits. What you don't drink, you can always take back home with you or offer those you are chatting with. Don't think there are rules about whether to share or not. That's up to you. But most just take enough for themselves.

We never attended a club but would love to for curiosity but if club has a bar wouldn't it be breaking rules by bringing your own drink like weddings not allowed to bring drink into premises unless was paid for on them?

It depends on the clubs own rules.

We did on our first time and it certainly helped!

Check with the club. If they have an alcohol license then taking your own is a no no. If its BYOB then just take the alcohol, buy the softies/mixers there.

As for how much to take? I'd say just for you. Clubs aren't about getting pissed, indeed it's often frowned upon as it tends to have an effect on why you're really there!

Plus (and in no way a reflection on you personally) with drink spiking back up on the rise I'd be wary of accepting a drink off anyone I had only just met.

We would advise just to take your own drink. We wouldn't take a drink off a stranger in a club, only from good friends. We prefer take your own drink clubs, we know we won't drink too much (most of us have done it )

Thank you all for the replies. Lots of really decent comments.

The club in question is indeed a take your own booze.

Going on the comments on not accepting drinks from others and spiking on the rise. I will take just what I intend to drink.

We generally take spirits and so we can buy the pop and help put a bit of money through the tills. But sometimes ale when that's what we really fancy. Mrs Misfit on occasions likes to take plenty of shots and pass them around. We took a party keg of ale to a club once, but that worked out to be a disaster due to a tap malfunction.
