Most of my first messages get read and deleted after I put so much effort into writing them.

What’s the secret?

Maybe after receiving your message they look at your profile.

There is no 'secret'. When we, get a message, it prompts a read of the sender's profile, and possibly a scan of their posts. The message might be fine, but if there's nothing of interest in the profile, or something we don't like, we'd just delete and forget.

Repeat the process that got you lots of verifications previously

I check profiles out before I read messages & your profile doesn't tell me anything & there's only one photo that again doesn't really give much away

There's nothing there that makes me think, this guy sounds interesting I wonder what he has to say

If your sending personalised messages I'm sure you'll have no problems brightening up your profile a bit, adding a few more photos, showing / telling us what you have to offer in a meet etc

There’s no such thing as perfect, all you are doing is encouraging someone to take an interest in you, put as much effort into your profile and pictures as you do into your messages and you’ll be fine.

Exactly and given that they are mainly from 2018 don't think saying back for round 2 is really appropriate as makes it sound like you've not long rejoined, keeping your profile upto date is important Most if not all women will look at your profile before your message so if the profile doesn't grab attention it's not going to help

No idea what your messages are like but if they're good, maybe put as much effort into your profile. Most of the messages we get come from guys who haven't bothered to read our profile first. On viewing their profiles we find that out and just delete their messages and block them to avoid wasing any further time. Your opening message is only part of the equation here.

Read the profile

If you can't relate to anything they're interested in then don't bother

Make message interesting

Brief but nice

No reply then take it on the chin n move on

For a woman it can be a touch stressful 100/200 messages when u sign on

And leave your clothes
