I would make sure that your both happy about the idea and that your both clean, we went to the GUM clinic to make sure before we met anyone.I (The f half) have an implant with is not intrusive when having sex as it goes in your arm, but there are other preventatives out there too, ask you doc if you want more info.

As said above get every one checked out before and after at your local sexual health clinic....and if your not on long term contraceptive already then take the morning after pill. Also get to know the person involved before hand to get an idea of how they are sexually (if that makes sense)

As well as testing schedules, you could also follow up post meet tests, as some infections don't show up for some time - the benefit of your playing with regulars would mean that you'd know them well enough to do this, rather than one-offs.

We have done it a couple of times over the years & it was absolutely brilliant each time.

Realistically though it is an increased risk. It doesn't matter how much care is involved or how regular the tests are undertaken.

Having said that both my wife & I were single for many years before meeting each other & did a lot of dating thru singles sites. Very rarely were condoms used or requested. Neither of us had any problems.

Equally we have had condoms tear whilst swinging.

The only totally safe sex is the solitary kind

The GUM checking will only tell you if you have caught something. It will not prevent you catching something. Although Chlamydia for example is treatable it is known to cause untreatable arthritis in the hips. Worse case scenario is HIV & Hep B. The latter you can get vacinated against but the former as we all know is not curable just treatable. As a previous post said its Russian roulette. So its safe sex for us with other people. Its not worth the risk.

There is no protection against STI's if bareback ... nothing.

A condom isn't 100% protection against STI's.

Even with regular sexual health checks at GUM for all parties concerned ... the test is only valid on the day it was performed ... thereagter you may succumb to STI's or blood borne viruses which you're incubating and until next time you play.

Bareback is for trusted and exclusive partners only if you want to hang on to your lifestyle.

Strains of the HPV virus which can lead to cervical cancer or cause warts is spread whether precautions are taken or not as it lives on the skin and is easily spread by bodily contact and hands. Young girls are now vaccinated against this but us older ladies have never been and therefore, we are at risk.....Many of us could already have it and clinics do not routinely check for this. Like some folks have already said....The only way to be 100% safe is to abstain from sex altogether.

Do you ask your potential meet to bring along valid paperwork outling his/her past results as well?

What happens if you meet a guy/gal just after your 'checkup' and he/she passes on an sti or something even more life threatening, then you pass that on to other meets during course of the month before your next 'checkup'!!

My advice would be to be careful. If you enjoy the idea of it, go for it. It doesn't affect those of us that practice safe sex as much as others. As long as I personally take precautions I feel happy with I beleive that we should all find our preferred method of play. Whilst I am not brave enough to try it doesn't mean it is wrong just not for me.

If others don't agree with it, then that's their opinion and choice, of which we are all allowed.

Me and my ex used to hold regular house parties.One night we had a party and some very old and dear friends came, they took us to one side and explained they wont be playing as she had a big of a discharge and they need to get checked out just in case, they would treat the party as a social only.

We explained to the other party goes that they weren'nt playing but never gave the reason as that was their business.

Anyhow, it turned out they had got chlamydia. Now we hadnt played with them for some 4 months before this party and always played safe.We also played safe at the party.They very rightly, told everyone they had played with that might be at risk.

However some other the other party goers heard that she had chlamydia as and turned on them, calling them all sorts of names, saying they put them at risk by going to our party ( they never played remember in fact stayed dressed) and saying we should never of let them stay and should of told everyone about her concerns.

Now we never said on the night about their concerns because it was a private matter at that time, they told us ( the only ones they knew or had met )in confindance and to explain why they wont be playing. We felt if they wished to tell others, that was up to them but we wont.

Now, they only ever played safe and they can only think that she caught this when a condom split,when that happened they stopped and replaced it right away. The moral of this story is, even with condoms your not safe,and people are too ill imformed about the risks most of the time, plus swingers can also be nasty, spiteful and narrow minded if someone does catch something, but we ALL take that risk everytime we play !!

Very similar thing happened to me a few years back at one of my first parties. There was a couple, they had had tests and were waiting on results so came to support the party with numbers sort of thing, the lady was sucking guys off, the man was happily playing with fingers, no risk to party goers. When someone found out they had had tests for something he kicked off that she had sucked his dick and given him something. It took a not to discrete threat to STF for him to relent. Moral of story, he should have put a condom on if he wanted risk free sex, and then hoped it doesn't split, degrade, leak etc

One thing this thread has shown to us is that from our experience some people do not visit GUM clinics as they seem to think results are given immediately.

We have never had a GUM clinic give us the result of a test immediately it normally takes up to 14 days for a result but more commonly between about 3 and 7 days after the test.

This thread also reveals the a number of people here have little knowledge about the risks of having sex either protected or unprotected.

Find out the truth people in the meantime remember there is no form of sex that is safe though some forms are safer than others

Even with condoms you can still catch something. Trust me on that. I always use condoms. Never bareback. But someone from this site gave me a sti.

Don't forget a sti can be transferred through oral sex aswell.

I've had results given immediately. If you show any signs of infection they can do results there and then (except for blood tests).

Luckily mine was issues with my coil and not a sti.

I don't get that people think they're immune because they wear condoms. Have over 100 swinging partners and they insist they have never needed to go to a GUM clinic because they wear a condom during sex.
