Hi everyone,

We have the basic understanding of what a polyamorous relationship is but we was hoping that you wonderful people could tell us more about it so we understand more.

Thank you x

We did look into it but it didn't give much insight just the overview of it.

Here you go...

For some people, a polyamorous relationship involves being in a relationship with multiple people, but having one main partner. For others, polyamory is the possibility of being in two completely separate relationships. ... “Another tenant of polyamory is that both individuals know of their partner's lovers.

I (fem) am polyamorous and have two separate relationships. There’s no threesomes or anything.

Separate towns so quite easy. Have one dedicated weekend with each man a month and other than that Just whoever is free etc.

They both know about one another.

Do u find it difficult to have 2 relationships? If we ask anything that steps over the line we are sorry.

No it’s fine. You’re welcome to bring it to my inbox if you’d rather.

Not at all. Though childcare routines etc help us with the planning etc. I imagine if you were just 3 totally single adults it might be harder come Xmas or whatever x

It’s a long read... but has changed our view on what we are looking for...

I guess many couples are looking for a third- but really - after reading this - it’s a female friend with benefits I guess we are looking for.

We are considering being polyamorous.

We need to read up a bit more before we decide anything though!

It’s whatever you want it to be.

Happy to answer any questions.

So to add a little context to what I mean... we’ve never met another poly person that does poly the same way anyone else does. It’s all about discussing what you each want.. and then coming up with a set of rules which, when you explain it to someone or write it on chat sound super complicated but it shouldn’t be... and this can change many many times.. it will evolve with you and you’re relationship.

Every encounter you have have the ability to shape it.

But the two main rules are open/honestly. There should be no secrets. And if you are the primary relationship, you come first no matter how harsh and twatish that sounds

But of course, one rule you could decide is you allow “cheating” because you both enjoy it. Of course you’re then not being open/honest and lying.. but you should agree to it first which counteracts it. And you don’t have to do primary, secondary, tertiary, triads, meta mores or whatever name they decided to use.

Personally I’m not a fan of Pokemon polyamory, which is what I call the act of gaining or referring to as many people as your bf/gf/whatever as possible. But as the same time I do look worn or judge either. If it makes them happy it’s none of business. I prefer to start with friends or fun. If that progresses to a FWB, great. If that progresses to a relationship, awesome. But it grows organically. Which means it should feel less forced and should be easier. This is what happens with my bf and her ex partners.

So a.. maybe slight correction to “you’ll never see two couples who do the same” you’ll get some that follow Books like ‘the ethical slut’ religiously and they will tend you follow similar guidelines. You don’t come across them much in the UK.
