we are very confused with these 2 terms and would appreciate it people can shed some light on the matter to help us understand it better and help us decide what role suits us :o)

Wikipedia says:

Cuckold historically referred to a man with an adulterous wife. It has largely fallen out of use in modern English with the decline of marital infidelity in pop culture literature. In modern English it generally refers to the sexual fetish of the same name in which a male gains sexual gratification from his partner's having sex with other males, therefore cuckoldress would be opposite ie female. This would be a female brought into play with a couple where she would play with the male, whilst the wife/partner would watch and not be allowed to join in.

A mistress is a term used in the D/S and BDSM (as the two don't always go together) and she would be the dominant person whereas the male (in a straight relationship) would be the submissive. The male term is Master.

Also worth noting that some cuckoldresses (also refereed to as hotwives) will also dominate their cucks with a BDSM element

they can be the same...

in the old sense a cuckoldress would cuck her hubby and keep him chaste, and usually submissiver herself to the bull

Now more often it's a Domme Mistress who has several subs some of which are cuckolded. but as Mistresses are Domme they don't usually have a dominant male bull but equal lovers or sometimes their partner, whilst keeping the cuck/sub chaste.
