Under representation of POC at Kink Events

Putting aside the BBC and cuckold fans, and following on from conversations on FL on the under representation of POC at Kink Events, I was wondering how many people who Identify as a POC go to serious kink events. I have been Torture Garden, Zara du Rose Events, Antichrist, Club Subversion and Subversion Noir, Peer Rope events, plus a host of workshops and it is normally me and one other POC at the event.

None POC can give their views as well on the under representation.

There is a lot of stuff on the site that can't be mentioned and generally about POC not feeling welcome. But it tends to be American focussed. If I started the thread with POC not feeling welcome the thread could hsve become toxic fast. I am working on the basis that things may be slightly different in the UK.

Maybe black males feel over fetishised (I think I made a word, or spelt it wrong), so they don't attend for fear (I don't mean fear as in scared, but you know what I mean) of being seen as taking advantage of the BBC idea.

Certainly looking at the porn sites more recently there seems to have been a massive influx of hijab porn, maybe this puts some Asian women off for similar reasons.

Its not necessarily a POC thing, some women on the larger side don't attend events because they don't want to be used as someones fetish toy.

A good point.

Thinking about it though I can see this affecting POC women more than men. Most of the POC men I have seen at events have been happy to be fetishised.

But possibly those vanilla wanting to take the first step may be put off.

I've been to a few of the events you've mentioned and like you was always one of the few.

Saying that, all the mates I went with were always white.

The only place I've been to where there were absolutely loads of black females, was Pedestal.

There were a few munches also, where there was always a good representation; Balham being one and the corset munch in Camden another.

There are or were black people attending events but I haven't been for years as I got sick and tired of being fetishized just because of my colour!

I also wonder about this sometimes - based on the diversity of London I would have expected munches and events to reflect that more directly. I suppose it does fluctuate somewhat but overall it makes me wonder.

This is the first time I've gone on to these chats, so I'm not sure I'm doing this right (technically).

I think your question is a great one. As a non POC, I can only say that I don't think you can put aside the BBC, Cuckold and fetishist element to it as it is regretfully alive and well amongst the white community, so I can only assume how marginalised this must make POC feel.

As a mixed race poc who looks more brown than black, I seemed to be mistaken for someone from the indian subcontinent a lot. Can someone openly and honestly tell me why people from this region are less successful on here. I always take a person at face value and do not form an opinion until I know them well enough.

In our experience the fetish scene is the most meritocratic welcoming group of people in the world.

Between 2003-2009 we were regulars at Club Rub. All were welcome (indeed encouraged) regardless of gender, race, sexuality or disability. It was a wonderful melange of every type of person imaginable, all gathered together to enjoy their particular kink in an ultra safe and non judgemental environment.

It would be interesting whether the proportion of POC in the swinging scene is representative of the proportion in UK society as a whole. I suspect there is a slight under-representation but wonder if that is culturally driven?

I thought it was run by Miss KR who was always keen on rubber. I tend to prefer Victorian gothic myself, although I do have my black latex top and leather trousers but people confuse me for a soul singer when I wear that outfit. But it gets me into TG without having to go over the top.

When things get back to near normal (and history shows us it will) then I would recommend TG for the experience.

It is like a fruit cocktail with exotic bits, some people make the effort to be out right out there. You have the filler ordinary bits,those are basically vanilla people making minimum effort there to dance and drink. Then you have the fruity bunch there to pull and to try and have sex. If I had not been going to swinging clubs one or two things that I have seen would have melted the ice in my daiquiri. To me the biggest disappointment was the dungeon, but it was well run.

For me personally I have had bad experiences with "brown...Indian subcontinent" guys at clubs, I've found them to be rude, pushy, grabby and unable to take no for an answer which obviously has made me very wary

Confuse you with a soul singer

Club Rub - not been since 2009, but while many did of course where latex, as many didn’t and had all manner of amazing and inventive outfits.

Mr B often wore a (proper) kilt with a mad max style top. Mrs B spent a fortune on different outfits every visit but some of our favourites were actually a Cyber Dog spiked bra with tiny hustler thong and boots (no latex)

Hmm can only speak for myself, I'm weary based on how many in kink communities often talk about black men. I know some brothers love all the BBC talk, I'm not a fan, feels dehumanising to me in a not sexy way.

Feels like I'll be seen for my race far too much.

That said, I've never experienced it but that's my hesitancy.

Surely this is a simple case of mathematics, if approx 15% of the uk population are people of colour then of course you are going to feel under represented at any social gathering, not just fetish gatherings. Out of the 15% of POC that live in the Uk not many are going to be into this lifestyle that we are all so fond of so unfortunately the number reduces again. If you’re having fun then is this really a problem?

Yes, thank you too-never heard the expression before and had not really thought about people of colour and the kink scene, so I am grateful for the topic and the chance to learn something new.

Maybe if enough people of colour into kink and those who wanted to mix with them, organised events like you see in the black male/white women/white couple space, then a home could be found for anyone who felt excluded? I would be interested in attending as a way introducing someone I know into the Scene.
