Vulval spasm/knot

Hi lovely ladies of Fab, hoping you have some good ideas! Just having my second experience of one side of vulva tying itself into a massive knot. Like it's decided on a half-hearted attempt at vaginismus! Last time it took a week before unknotting itself but I'm under a bit of time pressure and would like a faster solution. Any good ideas? I use BioFreeze when my shoulder knots up but suspect it would sting quite a lot in such a sensitive area! Daren't try ibuprofen gel for the same reason. Any suggestions?

Erm, definitely do not apply anything like ibuprofen gel, freezing gel or frankly anything not designed for vaginal use. The vagina has a really strong blood supply and very close to the surface, meaning dr*gs will be absorbed more readily and you risk excessive dr*g getting into your bloodstream.

Pelvic floor physios can perform internal massage to release the muscles if they are over tight, but this isn't something that should be happening routinely, so I'd recommend that you speak to a GP, with a view to a referral to pelvic floor PT. I don't think there are quick solutions.

Get a ball, sit on it and bounce gently.

Used to happen to me while pregnant and exercise balls would help massage it out.

Also try crossing your legs as tight as you possibly can and hold it. You'll feel when you've hit the right muscles.

Thanks both! Will try my pilates ball. Appreciate the thinking about pelvic floor referral but it's definitely external and one-sided, so not sure it's the case. But will seek medical advice if it happens again!

Definitely this 100%. It sounds like your pelvic floor has some funky muscle shit going on. It could be that exercises have twisted something. Don’t do any pelvic floor exercises as the majority of us have pelvic floors that are way too tight. Good luck!!!

Unfortunately for me, I've had a few too many pelvic floor PT sessions! Just recovering from gynae surgery at the moment, actually! We do try and help

Sucked up the embarrassment and rang GP surgery, nurse practitioner advised it's Bartholin cyst! So not pelvic floor related. Now need to work out how to soak my bits a few times a day without running a bath every time

Ouch, these can be very painful. You can have the gland removed if it doesn't improve. Best wishes

Washing up bowl, in the bath. I've had this a couple of times... I found a hot flannel (obviously test the temp!) helped too.

Warm flannel folded in to the shape of a pad and rested on is a hell of a lot easier than soaking

I just used that instead of soaking. I also used one of those bean bag microwave doodads over my pants.

Was more relaxing than beneficial I think

Noooooo!!! Owwwwww!!!! OMG, so sore. A large basin is your best bet. Epsom salts will help purge that cyst. Also a hot compress if the Dr wants to bring it to a head.

Hot flannel folded and put over it definitely works well!

Google a diagram of women's bits and look for the Bartholin Glands

Thanks lovely ladies, especially reassuring that other ladies didn't know about them! Nurse chuckled when I said I thought it was a muscular thing at first, too ignorant about my own bits Sadly allergic to Epsom salts but will try the hot flannel and washing up bowl ideas as more practical. Got clarythromycin (totally not the right spelling I suspect!) tablets for the next week. Just as well meets aren't on the cards since don't want anyone rummaging around

As it's very similar to lichen. I recommend Avacodo oil.

Fantastic for the area.

Also centraben cream wash with and apply after cleaning. Both external only. Xx

I'd trade my vaginismus for a cyst any day!

I'm glad you found out what it was, I hope it isn't bothering you for too much longer. Call the doc again if you notice any hot, swollen tenderness, it might indicate you're developing an infection.

( I've had lichen sclerosis - I ended up sitting in a " new" washing bowl which I placed in the ensuite shower.or bath would do ) x
