Hi, id really like to get in touch with other fabbers that are learning to adapt to the 'condition'

I was diagnosed six months ago and in the interests of further self awareness, id love an opportunity to chat and if its par if the course to have such a high sex drive.

It is very common, people with ADHD will attach to things that interest them with a compulsion like attachment whilst having no passing interest in things they find trivial.

Not just sex, it could be model trains.

Most people like sex though, so a person with ADHD can find themselves daydreaming or fantasising even though they have an active sex life.

I was listening to a podcast, can't remember where, about ADHD and sexual desires. It was interesting and seemed relevant to me.

I'm a high functioning autistic and I certainly fixate on certain aspects of my sexual life.

I'm interested to see how this thread progresses.

A certain fb group has been an amazing source of information and support, both before and since my eventual diagnosis.

Although I have written a few posts there regarding matters of sex and my curiosity to see how typical Adhd goes hand in hand with a high sex drive, I don’t want to appear some sort of Sex pest. I’m hoping fan could potentially be a more appropriate forum for me

My son has been diagnosed with adhd / autism and my sister says my son is just like me when I was a child now I probably have adhd/autism but Years ago you was classed as a naughty child . I no I have a very high sex drive and when I’ve checked my sons phone (as a parent I check his text messages and social media profiles) he’s been texting women about doing sexual things so is it related adhd and being horny

Hello I’ve been diagnosed with ADHD - just 3 months ago - and am learning about it. I do know that we hyperfocus on things - it’s not always sex but can be. It’s just he way we are wired.

People, please don't get it twisted.

ADHD is not classed as autism. They're different things.

Adhd is within the autistic spectrum, along with Asperger, dyslexia, add and autism.

"Adhd is within the autistic spectrum, along with Asperger, dyslexia, add and autism."

ADHD is often a comorbid condition, as are some others but is a separate condition.

ADHD is within the autistic spectrum and not a separate condition, if you look at the Olympic circles that's how it's been explained to us with the disorders interconnecting.

Simple yet effective visual analogy. Like it

Nope nope nope ....

Adhd is definitely a different condition and a different thing ... as someone that is both adhd and autistic ....

Autism is a developmental problem whereas as far as I'm aware adhd is caused by your frontal cortex actually being under productive ... hence why u basically give people with adhd speed to help them focus as it stimulates the mind to a "normal" level where you function better

They are currently classified as separate but related conditions.

Personally I wouldn't be surprised if ADHD does become part of the ASD umbrella in the future, but it definitely isn't (within accepted, mainstream thinking) at the moment.

Twenty years ago they were considered mutually exclusive. You couldn't be diagnosed with both. Now it's commonly accepted that they are closely linked, with a small number of researchers even theorising that they very often co-occur. I could definitely see a case for it being included in the same way, say, PDA is.

No, it's not within the autism spectrum. And, yes, it absolutely *is* a separate condition.

My initial post was correct, that it's frequently a comorbid condition but they have retained their distinct separation as conditions. ADHD isn't 1 unified condition, either. I have both ADHD and ASD.

As pointed out, the neuro-ivergent threads bring us wonderful people together here
