March is a funny month people are still not really going out valentine's lifts February just and Tuesday is always a relaxed day.
The bar was practically dead, it had been for most of the early part of the night and probably would remain so. Still better out than in, if anything was going to be on the menu it might pass by here.
A couple came in ordered cocktails and retreats to a booth. They had got all dressed up for some sort of event. He was in a dinner suit and she looked devine in a black cocktail dress.
They had obviously popped in for after dinner drinks, it was about 11.30pm. Looking at them I senced something was up a slight distance between them.
The piano player and I where chatting to the bar manager, union rules dictated that unless an audience was present no tunes needed to be played.
The couple finished their drinks and asked if we knew any place that might be lively and busy. Late on a March Tuesday night this was asking a lot, we replied try the basement. Knowing it was likely to be the best option, it would be near empty but with just enough people and the right design to feel like a club.
The couple hailed a cab and left, the night was slow and about 2am I made my decisions, exclaiming "I bet I can have that girl who was in earlier with the gent in the dj" grinning the bar manager said "you're on, say a bottle of champagne?"
I readily agreed, this was a challenge, one I intend to try to win. I had no difficulty getting a taxi outside town was truly dead as we headed for the basement. "Best be quick, it's almost last orders" Steve the doorman reminded me as I entered the Basement.
Being a face about town helped on these occasions, no ID checks, no waiting in line. Just smiles handshakes and a warm welcome.
Heading into the club I was looking for my pray, I was a hunter on a mission early that Wednesday morning. Three floors down I spotted her again. I headed for the bar and ordered a drink, moved to a spot where I could see her.
The couple where on the dance floor, it was his big night and she was his companion, by this point a sum what reticent one. Their date was not flowing perfectly.
Looking into her eyes from across the room I could tell she was not his. Our eyes locked from time to time and she knew I wanted her.
