She shook her head, laughing, and walked away.

A few minutes later, she appeared beside my desk again.

“Right,” she said. “Since you’re apparently so confident…”

She held out her phone.

I grinned. “What are we doing?”

“Swapping numbers.”

“Work emergency?”

“Absolutely. Extremely urgent.”

She looked at the screen, then at me. “There. Now I can bother you outside working hours.”

She started walking away, then turned back.

“And don't turn up in your boring work clothes.”

I smiled. “Wasn't planning to.”

“Good.”

She disappeared around the corner, leaving me staring at my screen with absolutely no idea what the email I'd been pretending to work on was about.

A moment later, my phone buzzed.

New message: Don’t get too excited. It’s only drinks.

I typed back:

Me: Of course. Purely professional should we invite tje otjers in the office?.

Another pause.

Her: And if I say yes?

I leaned back in my chair, grinning at the screen.

Me: Then I suppose drinks can wait.

Her reply came almost immediately.

Her: You're trouble.

Me: You've already established that.

Her: Fine. Send me the room number.

I looked at the message twice before replying.

Me: I thought you were still deciding.

Her: I was.

Me: And?

Her: I decided I was curious.

I was in the middle of getting dressed when I heard it.

A faint knock at the hotel door.

I stopped what I was doing and glanced towards it.

I nodded.
