We didn’t say a great deal of anything as we sat in the taxi back to the hotel. When we got to our room we just dumped our bags on the floor, partially undressed and sat on the bed, knackered and totally overwhelmed by everything that we’d experienced that afternoon. I was starving and guessed Jane would be too, but she’d starting napping so I left her knowing we had plenty of time for food.

I must have napped too as I woke with a start when a loud knock at the door came. Jane was up and pulled on a dressing gown telling the visitor she was on her way. I couldn’t see the door from the bed but I could hear Jane’s hysteria and she came bouncing back with a huge smile carrying two big bags and an envelope.

The bags were from Ingrid. She’d obviously played detective as at no point had we told her where we were staying! “Open the envelope first” I told Jane who pulled out a letter. Happy Christmas and thank you for a lovely afternoon it read, Jane spotting something else. I hadn’t asked Ingrid if she’d made a recording or suggested she send me a copy but she’d clearly had the same thoughts as me as I smiled at Jane and placed the small usb device in my wallet.

Jane was in total amazement at the contents of the bags, two complete outfits that were for sale at an eye opening price, now hers without a penny being spent. A fashion show followed, Jane now completely getting her second wind. “One small problem my darling” I told her with a smile. “What” she replied, “if we’ve more to do tomorrow, how the fuck are we gonna get everything home”, Jane laughing with me as we realised our dilemma.

Shopping the following day was far less eventful but productive in terms of purchases made. We’d both pretty much ticked off our lists by the time we got back to the hotel in time to retrieve our bags from day one and our luggage. I’d taken the liberty of booking a cab back home, a luxury one at that which we’d managed to pick up for a decent price. The door to door service would prove to be invaluable given what we’d amassed.

Jane napped most of the way home while I checked emails and caught up with a few loose ends. We were separate from the driver via a privacy screen so I didn’t have to bother with small talk and I really didn’t care the journey took nearly two hours longer than the train as we were very comfortable, travelling in style.

My key fob opened the gate when we finally got back to mine and as we unloaded the car I tipped the driver, wished him a happy Christmas when it came and wearily made my way inside, the house toasty warm, my new app allowing me to turn it on an hour ago via my phone.

“Take away on me” Jane smiled as we dumped the bags and agreed to deal with them the next day. “Deal” I replied, not bothered by what she chose. “Bloody hell that was quick” I laughed loudly when the doorbell rang moments later, Jane joining in with my humour claiming telepathy when she made her way to the camera to see who was at the gate. She pressed the buzzer and just smiled at me, Helen bursting through my front door seconds later full of life and energy.

“You’re just in time if you want feeding” Jane told her. “Yeah, whatever” she relied hurriedly, “I’m more concerned with seeing what’s on your USB device, you dirty bastards” she grinned as Jane and I just stared at each other. “Non of your business” Jane blushed, hoping she’d drop it there, but no, she’d got the bit between her teeth and kept on. “I’ll show you mine if you show me yours” she teased waving a similar looking thing to ours. I was more than happy to watch hers but kept quiet as I could see Jane weighing up the options. “Yours first and I’ll consider it” she countered, as if calling Helen’s bluff. “Yeah no probs, which screen” the younger woman replied, my heartbeat quickening in anticipation.

Jane insisted we ordered food first, Helen now interested in a fashion show which brought me a few minutes silence. Thankfully the delivery came within 25 mins and we were tucking into buy one get one free pizza when Helen took over the tv screen and a familiar looking shop interior came into view. Ingrid had clearly edited the action to eliminate the boring bits and I couldn’t wait to see the action unfold.

We honoured Helen’s wishes and showed our clip after she’d showed hers. I’m not sure who was more in awe of each others recording as I found her video absolutely box office, whereas she said ours was incredible. One thing was for certain, Ingrid was definitely not the shy and retiring type. “That strap on looked incredible” Jane confessed as we finally climbed into bed. I could see her mind wandering. “Get yourself shopping then babe” I half joked already certain she was one step ahead of me with that thought.

The next few days were busy and I was buried deep into my workload to do anything else. We’re not a seasonal company but I still wanted to hit deadlines to get things overseas on time. Early the following week I received an email from my German clients inviting me over to Munich. “It’s not optional by the looks of it” I told Jane, the Germans very insistent that I attended their Xmas celebrations. “Can you get the time off to come” I asked her knowing that she should be able to combine her work whilst over there too.

She was now a partner within her company so she had it sorted within an hour so I emailed back accepting the offer with pleasure. We’d agreed to go a day earlier than the invite, neither of us having been other than filling visits so we could be tourists for nearly two days before joining our hosts on the second evening.

“Don’t they have a better red light district than Amsterdam” she asked coyly. “I’ve no idea babe” I lied, fully aware of the reputation it had, my head now swimming with ideas of what we could get up to on foreign soil. I picked up my phone to keep off the work laptop, brought up the internet and started making plans do my Mrs wouldn’t forget Germany for a very long time!!
