Claire spent ages with Emily in her room. I did eavesdrop a little, and it was clear they were getting on well.

When Claire finally came down, she was smiling.

"So many questions," she said.

"Like what?"

"I couldn't possibly say. Us girls have to have our secrets, but needless to say, she is so happy about us."

"So what now?"

"I need to tell, Brian, the Head, before this gets out.

"Okay."

"Were you intending to go to the PTA Quiz next weekend?"

"Yes, why?"

"Well, how about I come with you as your date?"

"Oh yes, that's a great idea. That will surprise everyone."

"I am sure it will. Then on Monday, I will tell my colleagues, as it will soon get around the playground, once the parents tell their kids."

"So Emily only has to keep it a secret another week?"

"Yes."

We cuddled and kissed on the sofa for the next hour before Claire went home after we arranged to take 'the dog for a walk' the next day.

Emily was very excited the following day.

When I pulled up outside Claire's place, she came out immediately and waved at Emily as she walked down the path, and Emily waved back, both girls smiling broadly.

We drove to the reservoir for our walk. Claire and I held hands, and often, Emily joined in, either in between us or holding Claire's hand.

Claire and Emily had instantly become best friends.

Before we came home, we had an ice cream together.

We told Emily she had to keep things quiet for a little longer, which she promised to do.

On Tuesday, Claire went to see the Headmaster, Brian, about our relationship and that nit would be public knowledge from the weekend.

She assured him that it had started after Emily had left her Class.

He was happy with that and wished us luck.

On Saturday evening, I was very nervous about attending the quiz with Claire, but she was excited.

We arrived at School in plenty of time. Before we got out of the car, I took a deep breath, Claire laughed.

"Come on," she said, "Let's go and turn a few heads."

We walked in, holding hands, and people looked at us within seconds. We went over to some other parents, friends of mine, who had agreed to let me join their team, although they didn't know Claire would be joining us.

"Well, Phil, that's certainly stopped the conversation," my friend Steve said.

"Sorry."

"Don't be. It's great to see you with someone. Good to see you, Miss Brown."

"Thank you, but please call me Claire."

Introductions were made, although the two couples we joined knew Claire in her capacity as a Teacher.

"So, how long have you two been seeing each other?" Sarah, Steves wife, asked.

"Oh, only since the school Disco," I said.

"I thought that was for the kids to pick up a girlfriend, not the parents!" Steve joked.

We all laughed.

We had a fun evening. Several parents came to talk to us, and all seemed happy for us.

When Steve and I were alone, he told me I was a lucky man to have Claire by my side. I could tell he was jealous, although there was nothing wrong with his wife, Sarah.

I agreed.

Afterwards, Claire came back to mine.

On Sunday evening, when Emily came back from her Mum's, I told her she didn't have to keep it a secret anymore. She was very pleased.

Claire and I knew she would be telling her friends in the playground on Monday.

On Monday morning in the Staffroom, before Scholl started, Claire stood up just before everyone disappeared to the classes.

"Before you all disappear, I want to make an announcement. Some of you will know Emily Stevens, who was in my Class last year. Well, her father and I are dating. I thought you should know in case you overhear any playground chatter."

There was a ripple of applause, and a couple of Clairs' colleagues came up to her saying how happy they were for her.

A few stories did appear in the playground when Claire was on supervising duty.

Mid-week, Claire came round for tea with Emily & me.

After Emily was in bed, we relaxed on the sofa.

"Phil, we need to talk about some things."

"Sounds serious, but yes, you are right. Actually, I did want to discuss something with you tonight anyway."

"Okay, well, you go first."

"This may sound a bit quick, I don't know, but it seems right to me. Will you move in with us?"

Claire smiled, "I would love to."

"It makes sense. It will save you money and means we can be together all the time and Emily will love it. There is no need to rush it, and we can move your things gradually while we decide whether to use your furniture or mine."

"Sounds good. I will move my clothes in this weekend. You better clear some wardrobe space!"

"Oh, dear."

"Funnily enough, I was going to as what happens next, so that's one question answered."

"What else did you want to talk about?"

"Well, I have never been happier than I am now."

"Nor me."

"I love you dearly, as you know. One of the things Emily asked me the other week was if we would have a baby."

"Oh."

"Exactly, and we do need to discuss it. You have Emily, and I love her, but she isn't 'ours', and I would like to seal our love with a baby."

"I was sort of expecting this talk, but not yet. If you want a baby, I am more than happy for us to make one."
