Estimates vary, but the UK is expecting a peak in around 8-10 weeks.

I would agree with not years. However this will take a few months. Exactly how many is anybody's guess.

I think you can safely say that visiting Spain in April/May just won't happen, June 50/50 (at best) The rest of the summer? Who knows but I think there are serious doubts.

We are supposed to be leaving Spain tomorrow (unless we get cancelled again) and I don't expect to see our house here again for at least 3 months, but even that could be optimistic.

Yes but I hope it isn't "out of the frying pan, into the fire"

Spain is the 2nd worst in Europe but Germany is 3rd. And our area is the worst area in Germany.

Some of the images Mrs H's son is sending us are quite scary.

Melodramatic!!!!!

No offence, but I think (only my opinion) that your prediction for it to be a good few weeks rather than months is, at the best, extremely optimistic.

April and May will also involve restrictions. There's just no way someone is going to say...that's it, it's all over' just go back to your normal routine. If you remember only less than 2 weeks ago, DT(USA) intimated it would be over by Easter.

Irrespective, I really do hope your right, but I'm the 'half empty glass' person and I think this will be ongoing.

1st holiday without kids in 11 years. Last holiday was 2014 with the kids. Waited so long for a holiday and it gets pissed all over with this virus.

Had another UK holiday put back also with all the family but what can you do but stay home and stay safe.

Costa Blanca Spain...

I'm really beginning to doubt that June will happen for the Costa Blanca.

Even if the restrictions are lifted (I think at best more likely will be just relaxed) by then, the logistics of getting everything up and running will take quite some time.

Ryanair for example have grounded their entire fleet until at least the end of May. Even if they do start again on June 1st they cannot just put the whole lot up in the air on day one. After standing idle for 2 months the aircraft will need safety checks and many will be in the wrong place. As someone on another thread posted, there is possibly an issue with pilots minimum flying hours as well.

Easyjet, Jet 2, Etc will all have the same problem.

Even if, and it's a very big IF, things start running again in June it will be well into July or even August before any semblance of normality returns.

That is pretty much what we were expecting.

When we left our place last month we resigned ourselves to not seeing it again until at least July.

I'm now thinking even that was optimistic.

We think positive thoughts are required, not assumptions. Guess work can be found on FB all day long. Holiday makers planning to visit Benidorm that includes a stay at any HOSBEC group of hotels can find positive info on their website.

Seems to us people are awaiting a yes/no to their travel arrangements. Why not put things into perspective first, : Would you jump on a plane knowing your going to breathe shared circulated cabin air at 30,000 ft. Would you risk bringing your family to Benidorm immediately after the lockdown has ceased, bearing in mind Spain has been high on the mortality list !!

Stay safe xx

Really appreciate your input on the thread. Just had an e mail from our hotel in Benidorm to say they are reopening on June 6th. When are we scheduled to arrive? June 6th! ( Poseidon group )

You’re spot on with your flight comment.

It could be that our hotel reservation is ok but our flights get cancelled. Booked separately through travel republic and EasyJet.

Probably end up not paying our hotel balance and hope that flights get cancelled

Costa Blanca Spain...

Prime minister Sanchez has now spelled out how the lockdown will be relaxed. Still a bit vague on some details but starting to be a bit clearer. He is calling it "new normality"

Interestingly devolved power to adjust the details will be by province rather than region. That means that Benidorm will be controlled by Alicante province rather than Valencia region.

It will be in four phases from 0 - 3 (why they didn't call it 1 - 4 is beyond me)

Each phase will last 14 days but can be extended or even pushed back depending on infection rates.

Phase 0 will start on May 3rd/4th with restrictions being relaxed for gym's, hairdressers, and take away meals from restaurants.

In phase 1 some bars and restaurants "could" be allowed to re-open but that part is unclear as they are mentioned again in phases 2 and 3.

In phase 2 restaurants will be included but operating on one third capacity.

Phase 3 includes all bars and restaurants (still with restrictions) and travel between Spanish regions (but not international) will be allowed. This is expected to be reached by the end of June.

So all being well Benidorm will see its first Spanish tourists in late June/early July. There is no time scale for international visitors but it's safe to say that there will be none before August and probably later than that.

The link below is in German but google does a decent translation. When I find it in English I will post the link.

I think it was the Spanish foreign minister who said last week that when international tourism resumes it will be on a country by country basis dependant on infection rates. I remember reading it but can't remember where.

So it may be the case (albeit doubtful) that Brits could be allowed in first. You could also get a situation where Germans or Scandinavians are allowed in before the British.

It's really up in the air as to how it will work but it will depend on how individual countries have controlled infection their rates. Of that you can be sure and certainly not before August, more likely later than that.

IF and IF being the operative work, who could blame Spain or the Alicante region if they allowed Germans, for example, to holiday in Benidorm before us Brits. Sadly our Government has made honest genuine mistakes in terms of being late with lockdown and lack of PPE. So there will be many more infected Brits compared to Germans. Spain is entitled to do what’s best for itself after the terrible losses they have suffered. A second wave in any country or around the world would be devastating. Everything about saving lives right not holidays. I’ve got two Beni trips booked for this year but I can’t see either going ahead. I’ll be gutted but if it saves one life am more than cool with it. All the best to everyone and stay safe

Let's not forget Spain has had 25.000 deaths and 3 times that infected it just doesn't go away like that although the Spanish government has relaxed restrictions there are still Spanish people infected as much as I love benidorm I wouldn't travel to Spain just yet and as to say the Germans are ok that's just rubbish also it only takes one

"IF and IF being the operative work, who could blame Spain or the Alicante region if they allowed Germans, for example, to holiday in Benidorm before us Brits. How dare any of you suggest that we might not be allowed to Benidorm any time soon, as above I have read where the Spanish authorities have stated maybe no travel before Christmas and and most of the other things mentioned regarding restrictions. Where? I can't say for sure on holiday forums and other sources maybe but they are there and if you want to google I am sure you will find them but the above posters are certainly not fibbing about it it has been said.

In total yes but Germany has tested 2.5 million, the UK less than 1 million, and the UK is still a few thousand in front from a lower population.

However that is mostly historical. It is the current daily rate that they are more interested in.

Yesterday for example the UK recorded 6,032 new infections and 634 deaths.

Germany recorded 1470 new infections and 156 deaths.

On current infection and death rates the UK is, by a country mile, the worst in western Europe. And only exceed by Russia for Europe as a whole.

Could be bullshit but heard main clubs in Benidorm could be opening for June 8th and smaller clubs/pubs 11th of May to locals first.

Source was FB page Benidorm reviews

And Tiki beach could be opening up in the next

10 days

Obviously don’t know what’s happening on our end

nr benidorm costa blanca

Bars are being allowed to open from 11 May with only strict 30% occupancy to keep social distancing and plastic screens between tables. table service only. Restaurants same if you have outdoors terrace. Travel will be allowed within same province ie Alicante but not open to holdaymakers until much later. Beaches will open soon but have much reduced occupancy ie 40% only on sunbeds 2 metres apart this summer

"Everyone stop being so melodramatic. It’s going to be a good few weeks. But not months and definitely not years! That’s great news, look forward to hitting those bars."

What’s the point going on holiday and ‘hitting those bars’ when you will be the only person in the bar (if you can find one open that is ) .

Total numbers yes. However I was talking about new infection rates, which will be the important number (along with the R number) if governments, in this case Spain, decide to restrict travel from certain countries.

Russia came late to the party but their new cases have outstripped the UK for most of the past week.

Only yesterday for example UK was 4806 Russia 9623. For the same period Germany was 890.

OK my mistake I thought you were talking about overall figures. The UK would still struggle if governments did decided to restrict certain countries as we now have the worst statistics in Europe excluding Russias European population.

We were due to go in June, we'd love to go in October but we'll have to see. No one knows for sure.

Its irrelevant how well Spain is doing in October if the UK are still a shambles with this. They wont let us into Spain til we are clear too
