If you're worried about it then don't go, simple

Do be aware however that the odds of being killed on the way to the airport are probably 100 times higher than catching and dying of coronavirus in Gran canaria

Just posted an article, Make your own mind up.

We are due to fly out in 3 weeks. Hoping that we still can but understand that there are more important things to consider in the bigger picture. Unless the government advise against travel, the borders are shut, the flight gets cancelled or we contract it prior we will travel.

Do some more research guys, particularly if you have underlying health conditions. The plane is a breeding ground for germs, lots of Italian play in the club which are not that well sanitised. Let's not panic though. I do know some guys are taking a break until it all settles.

We passed it off as a joke but starting to take it seriously now. I write this whilst in bed recovering from the flu

Think it is crazy and flippant to dismiss the fact that a club isn’t a breeding ground for infection.

If Italy is in lock down and making sure that people are a metre a part in restaurants/ public spaces.

People are in denial if they think a group of people mixing from all over the world banging each other is low risk.

Thats the "start of the peak" according to the wording from the press of some professors speech. I am not really sure how you can have the "start of the peak" really but I think she means that the infection rate is an exponential curve and the steep rise will start in 2 weeks or so.

Yes that’s right - the modelling predicts the UK will be where Italy was two weeks ago and will peak in June. It is expect to calm down over the summer and resurface again in the winter.

One thing to be mindful of is that the government may declare Spain as a hotspot and returning tourists to the UK we need to go into 14 days self isolation. That’s a whole world of stress, certainly if self employed.

A risk verses reward situation.

Remember that this virus doesn't like heat. Unless it mutates then this will be over in the majority of Europe by August. We are already seeing a decline of numbers in China. Admittedly it will get worse for the UK before it gets better.

Last year was our first visit coinciding with the carnival and we were amazed by the scale of it and the number of floats and people involved.

Given the hpye it's understandable that it's been cancelled and only time will tell whether these precautions will make a difference but let's hope so, also it should make a massive difference to the number of people catching seasonal flu or the common cold.

Apparently the air in a passenger plane is filtered (HEPA) once every 2-3 minutes so it's much cleaner than a bus or a train.

The carnival is not cancelled, it’s just been suspended.

All groups of 1000 people or more have been suspended for 14 days starting today. The carnival will still happen as there is far to much money to lose. About €80,000 would have to be handed back to stall holders. Also as it gets hotter the virus can’t live on any surface

That is based on a comparison with the flu. So they assume heat will help but as yet cannot be 100% sure

I really hope it goes ahead at some point. As the experts are saying on tv this morning, things are changing on a daily basis. Large gatherings of people is a problem, this virus is passed on by coughing and sneezing or touching an infected surface, then touching your face. Not everyone washes their hands also.

Bournemouth, Notts & Spain

We've cancelled our trip to La Mirage that was due to be in 3 weeks time. Some may consider it a panic action but we consider it measured.

We live in Spain (Catalonia) and have an apartment in Fuerteventura and the situation seems to be escalating in the same way as Italy. Different autonomous communities have different levels of infection but the rate of infection is relentless, for the moment anyway.

Now, it may be that you only get a mild reaction, little worse than a cold, but you may also be in the 15%(give or take) that needs intervention, if (big if as time goes by) there is the facility available.

So, for us, we'd like to de-risk by not being in close contact to other bodily fluids and surfaces for a while.

As to a vaccine soon, dream on, it may be ready for the general population winter 2021.

YMMV.

Keep safe!

It's well known fact that UV kills viruses so outdoors im GC must be safer than home"

Easy to say when you are back home before it gets really bad.

We are Jet2 and they have stopped flying from Italy. Spain is getting worse by the day so every chance the same will happen 3 or 4 weeks from now when we would be coming home, so we will monitor it until the last min

We're just looking for accommodation for the after next as flights have dropped to £75 return

The risk in playa del ingles is probably less than your local tesco and although the canaries are Spanish they are not in Spain lol

CORONAVIRUS cases in Spain have now soared past 3,000, with an increase of more than 700 in just one day.

The death toll has almost doubled and at least 84 people have now died from the disease in the country.

Anyone thinking that the islands are going to avoid it are deluded

You are right - we can brush it under the carpet and pretend all is well in the world. Meanwhile in other news...

Boris Johnson described Coronavirus as the "worst public health crisis for a generation" and warned families to be braced for the deaths of loved ones.

His bleak warning came it emerged there are 5,000 to 10,000 Britons carrying the virus that is sweeping the world.

"This is the worst public health crisis for a generation," said the Prime Minister at a press conference.

"I must level with the British public - many more families are going to lose loved ones before their time."

Not sure what's going on but the experts are saying if the temperature goes above 66f then it will burn itself out.

If that's the case GC should be ok, but then again you never know who to believe.

Gatsby Club closing.

In the current health crisis, many public buildings, businesses and places of entertainment in Playa Del Ingles have closed for a few weeks.

At Club Gatsby the welfare of our customers is our main priority and so we have decided to close the Club for two weeks from 13.3.2020 to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.

We apologize for the inconvenience that this will cause, but we hope you understand why we have made this decision. In the meantime stay healthy, be careful and we will see you all soon. Please keep an eye on our profile for updates.

Nope, I wouldn’t do that far, just use common sense if needed, I am struggling to buy just one hand gel bottle, I only need one to keep going for a few weeks but there is muppets out there want to stock their cupboard up with it, how the virus going to stop spreading where less people have hand gel while muppets have it all in their cupboard!

"I just had an email from my Travel Agents today to advise me not to travel to Gran Canaria next week and will give me a voucher refund to use it at another date later on the year, in a way I am glad I am not going as it's very deadly out there and too risky"

Who is your travel agent

West Yorkshire

After spending the day in Manchester airport to wait at the gate for the pilot to come out and say sadly Spanish authorities won’t let us fly to GC, so the flight was cancelled.... we received an email 5 mins later from TUI saying they will automatically issue a refund.

A flight to Fuerteventura at the next gate was the same.

Oh well... there’s always next year.

At least you're all getting your refunds, so that's good news, sorry you're losing your holidays though.

We were there last weekend and can’t see how the hotels would be able to cope if everyone had to eat in.

The Hotel we stayed in could accommodate 2000 but only had 2 restaurants on site as most people went into the plentiful restaurants in Meloneras.

Feel for the workers in the bars, restaurants, clubs etc I’m sure most love hand to mouth.
