I'd say that a lot of people (us included) arrive late and pay for one drink each and maybe a locker and a business can't possibly survive with that income so they have doubled their income by charging €20. If I want to go drinking I do so if I want sex I don't spoil it by drinking so

I'm happy to pay that for the really nice venue that it is.

Having said that if we just want one drink and not staying we would be more likely to go elsewhere as we found secrets to be very quiet on weeknights

We was there 3 weeks ago, it seems the 20euro charge has scared a lot of people off, we always go secrets but when we went in there was only one other couple in there, so unfortunately left, it was so different in September and the place was bouncing, looks like the other venues have benefited from it as next door in fun4all was rammed, even Patricia’s was packed, we are back there Saturday for a week so will see if people have realized that 20euros for a decent venue is worth every penny

I think the 20 euros at the door is going to slow things down at Secret

We went to Moonlight Dream last night and they were actually turning away couples at the door because it was so full

Patricia’s and Fun4All were also packed earlier this week, while in comparison things seemed a little slow in Secret

In reality when you add things up several other clubs, with the exception of Eternity charge a similar fee for couples for admission and with two drinks

But setting up a cash desk outside the door and not allowing new couples to even have a free looksie to make their mind up - isn’t going to win them customers

Years ago when living in the UK we paid a visit to AbFabs which everybody was raving about at the time.

We had to pay £50 entry plus £20 for membership, we didn't get to look around beforehand and the only free drinks were soft.

As it turned out we thought the place a dump and well below the standard we've experienced on the continent and N.America.

So really, 20 euros is a breeze and I've always thought that Secrets is one of the nicer clubs in GC.

The system is unfair, people who do not drink alcohol (yes, they really exist , we live here and can not drink every night or otherwise know many spanish couples driving here from Las Palmas), for example, have to pay 20 euros for 2 s as well as others for 2 whiskey

But the people who don't drink alcohol are most likely the reason for the €20 charge, the club needs people to spend money so they pay wages, rent and electricity and those that buy one soft drink or one beer don't contribute enough.

The actual drink either Coke or whisky doesn't matter to them.

The fair system would be to charge a minimum to spend for example 20 Euros,

not depending what drinks you have. So they get the 20 Euros and the one get 2 whiskey and the other for their 20 Euros 4 or 6 s.

For them it´s the same in purchase because Whiskey is of course more expensive and the non-alcoholics wouldn´t feel "cheated"

No fuss, just an observation from a business point of view - many couples like to club hop (if one club is empty or slow they move on) new couples like to have a free looksie before committing, Secrets no longer allow this and even charge single females an entry fee

We have been here for 8 nights so far and probably would have spent at least 4 in Secrets but decided to spend only 2

We also discovered that Moonlight Dream is a far better club

Why should I do?

Everybody goes where he feels good, welcome etc. And the owners are more intelligent people than us, so if they would not be sure of their system, they would not do.

We are out every night in nearly every club and see the different systems, for example in Moonlight they have no minimum charge and yesterday and last sunday they must close the door at 10.30 because of there they were so much people.

And we go to Secret too, see only that it was much more crowded before they charged "double" entry (before and like in many other clubs it was minimum 10 Euro incl. 2 drinks).

No, problem, we only have the experience over the years, that the most owners of the clubs and bars are very advice-resistant from disinterest to statements like "...we are professionals, we are restaurateurs since many years, the people like..." and so on.

Of course they are convinced of their concept, otherwise they would not do it and time will tell, if they are right.

And since in this particular example we are certainly in the minority, we live here, but 95% are tourists who like to drink alcohol and if it works, it´s good for them. We only see, that since they charge 20 Euros and more, Fun4All and Moonlight are rising vastly. Were out every night this week and two times in Secret also four in Moonlight and Fun and in the last two there were much more people. But it´s their calculation, they need only the half people by charging the double

We have been to Secrets the last 3 nights and really enjoyed it. The €20 charge is reasonable when you get 2 drinks and entry for it and the club was buzzing.

After reading other forum posts we were alert to over charging on the tab and sure enough on a night when we’d had a 2nd drink (over and above the one included in the €20) we were presented with a €70 bill that, when challenged, was reduced to €17! Benefit of the doubt that this was a genuine accident but really enjoyed the nights in Secrets and the charges are definitely worth it!

Back from PDI so thought I would add to thread. Went to Secrets on a few occasions, weekend nights a lot busier than mid week. 20 euro entrance was fine especially as we both had large rum and cola as our "freebie". Service was good and staff very friendly to us. Other drinks reasonable and we had no overcharging issues at all. If visiting for 1st time Fri/Sat night seems the best and would advise maybe leaving it till 11ish after checking out the other bars in Cita. Roll on next year's visit!
