"About 1,000 people have been forced to flee a huge mountain fire on the holiday island of Gran Canaria. Troops have been drafted in to help 200 firefighters battle the blaze, which currently spans nearly 2,500 acres, about 20 miles from the capital Las Palmas. Helicopters and planes are being used to drop water on the area in an attempt to tackle the raging inferno. Strong winds and temperatures of more than 32C (90F) are hampering efforts to douse the flames. The fire poses a threat to several towns as well as the Tamadaba natural park on the west of the island, according to the authorities." Gosh how awful, hope everyone is safe.

"The fires are about 40 miles north of PDI near Tejedea. There's no effect down here in PDI. The area up there has is a national park and has a lot if trees. Haven't seen any smoke and there is no vegetation down here so no risk, but have seen helicopters getting water. Everyone is safe here and up there also. No injuries or fatalies reported. "There's absolutely no sign that there are fires (we're in PDI at the moment). We saw some smoke on the distant hills on Saturday but that's been it. It wasn't until a friend back home asked about it that we even knew there was a fire. " Same here heard about it on a Irish news website. Lol
