Costa Blanca Spain...

It looks like Murcia Corvera airport is finally about to open.

We think that it will be a white elephant that will struggle to attract passengers.

It may be handy for some of the golf resorts in the area (oh wait a minute most of those are white elephants as well) but for anyone else it's in the middle of nowhere.

Politicians ego trip no more, no less.

Alicante province

Built to serve the Paramount theme park that was never built... and the massive golf resort south of Mazarron which was also never built... and to give a €300 million contract to a construction company with public money

Costa Blanca, Spain

I need to make a trip to Dublin in the next few months so did a check of Alicante against Corvera - the only carrier was Ryanair - who I hate flying with - Alicante was mach cheaper with much better flight times.

Corvera was only built to massage the ego of the Mayor of Murcia city.

Total madness closing the very popular and well situated San Javier airport.

LOL. The Paramount theme park was the top item on every property sales pitch for years. There's probably some still using it.

The reality was that it never got much further than the "Maybe" stage.

Murcia (city and region) had more wild dreams than a couple of hundred Del Boy's. The Polaris World Nicklaus golf trail went tits up along with the "Costa del Golf" pipe dream.

So now rising like a well plucked and badly burnt Phoenix we have Corvera.

Yes it will be all shiny and new and will be a massive boost for such golf courses as El Valle or La Torre. It could even double the daily number of players from 10 to 20.

However the only other thing it will succeed in doing do is to drive passengers who visit the most popular part of the whole region (Greater Torrevieja) back to Alicante.

Yes people visiting the Mar Menor resorts will pretty much have to suck it up.

However the many people who used it for Torrevieja and area will almost certainly switch to Alicante.
