We left secrets around 3am . We walked towards the yumbo centre when we where approached by a young cpl of German speaking girls barely 18. Speaking a load of shite. To us but then a car drew up beside us with three guys in the car. We quickly walked away as we could smell a set up. Think they where ready to rob us so beware guys. Are we over thinking that situation?? Nah. Too long in the tooth. So beware when leaving the clubs guys. Stay safe.just hope this ain't something new here ........

No, I don't think you are over thinking the situation. We have to remember this sort of thing can happen anywhere and well done for highlighting this. We don't walk anywhere at that time in the morning, we get straight in a taxi.

He is not a 'proper hard case' but he is big. Yes you are right, but you can't be paranoid, just vigilant, as I said, it can happen anywhere, there will be a certain amount of walking, to get a taxi.

Yes you're right. We used to know a policeman from Las Palmas and he told us that some people in GC are desperate and there is no benefit system, so some will do anything, just to eat. Sad fact and I suppose tourists can be easy targets.

The situation was neutralised quickly. Just got out of there. This is the first time we've encountered this . Been coming here for yrs. we even seen a guy having a wank in his car at the exact same spot in June . Just laughed that off . But we do feel safe here and was hardly worth while getting a taxi but need to rethink that now. It's the wee wife it got to think about. Little toerags lol.

My hubby is far from being a hard case but he's quite stocky and they would be dissapointed if they tried to rob us as on way home we have usually spent up for the evening and my bag would only contain sexy undies and make up

I think I know who this is and where he works. When we stayed at Liberty one year, we arrived back in a cab and he sat in his car and I remember seeing him outside 2x2. Bit spooky now, think he was following us and we gave him no encouragement. We went in March and noticed he wasn't at his place of work.

Doesnt matter whether it was nearer yumbo than cita. It happened and peeps need to know of any dangers in front of them. Obv they are cruising around the whole area. So thinking its only near the yumbo is wrong info to send out. Taxis is safest option in our opinion

We were out just over a week ago and never saw or heard of any problems and we walked home every night!! (admittedly not in the direction of the Yumbo) . Cabs are so cheap and plentiful if you feel uneasy .

Something to ponder,

In 30+ visits to GC we have never encountered any problems when walking the streets at night.

We have though had problems with 3 taxi drivers, in each instance when leaving 2x2, who have tried their luck by being overly friendly and “suggestive” whilst heading back to La Mirage.

As a rule when using taxis I, Ben, sit upfront alongside the driver and Lisa sits directly behind the driver. Being in close proximity to and engaging the driver does seem to divert their attention.

We always get taxi from 2x2 and the drivers can be very suggestive, especially the young ones, but they soon realise when you show no interest. They seem to decide who will take what fare, we always end up with the old ones now!

Hope people aren't being put off by our experiences, on the whole it is very safe, but another incident was a couple who went for a walk on the beach early hours of the morning, near MacDonalds, camera and money stolen. Just trying to emphasise, don't be drawn into a false sense of security because you are on holiday and may have had some 'falling down berry' wine!
