Caleta de Fuste (Little Blackpool) - is getting a brand new, man-made beach (funded by EU) and it's not in the EU .. But that's another story...

Few years ago, we used to meet couples in the Aberdeen and head off to Legends for fun...

Seems that has all but disappeared now +-(

Either way, great little Brit part if the island - enjoy xx

The EU includes the following 27 countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain (including the Balearic Islands - Mallorca, Ibiza and Menorca), Sweden, the Netherlands, the UK.

Please note: There are a number of other islands or territories which, despite being within the “footprint” of the EU, or being sovereign states of those 27 members of the EU, are not within the tax territory of the EU. This means that whenever you are flying to those countries/areas listed below, you can buy relevant goods at “Duty Free” prices. The destinations are: The Canary Islands - Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura (these are part of Spain), the Channel Islands - Jersey & Guernsey and Gibraltar (these are part of the UK).

Sorted.....

The second part of my post explained it...yes the Canaries are a Sovereign state of Spain...so yes, part of Spain...BUT for tax, in this case excise duty, they are exempted and you are treated as any traveller would be, from outside of the Eu.

So it's a case of it is but it isn't???

I accept that but the info is a direct lift from hmrc website and the only bit that has any effect, is the 'duty free' aspect, which is of benefit to travellers.

Use of the Euro, only signifies part of the Eurozone, not Eu membership but that's by the by

Nine countries (Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Sweden, and the United Kingdom) are EU members but do not use the euro. Before joining the eurozone, a state must spend two years in the European Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM II).

In case anyone was about to cast doubt

So how come E111 card, so many holidaymakers rely on when in Canaries, is valid if Canaries not in EU??

Canary Islands are in EU....... only tax regime is different and that's because like Andorra, in years gone passed it was remote and difficult to access.

Mind you, you'd think it was non-EU, when UK people come here and don't even bother to meet when arranged....pffft

Just 'google' are the Canary Islands part of the EU. Travel expert and broadcaster Simon Calder seems to think they are, but then, what does he know?

Show me a result from the google search which says they aren't.

It's posted above, if you'd read it and contextualise it.....for tax purpose ie 'duty free' you are treated as visiting a non Eu country. 'TREATED' There are 2 specific examples...it's a cut and paste, not paraphrasing...

Seems they have all the benefits of being in the EU and all the benefits of not being in the EU.

Talk about win-win!

I say lets dig a moat around Yorkshire declare island status and independence but we're quite prepared to remain a tax & duty free sovereign state of old Blighty ??

We? Your profile reads like you are a single guy?

Try Cap d'Agde, France or Maspalomas, Gran Canaria for swinging on the beach. We're far too discrete here, but you never know what goes on in any stone circle here...............
