Yes, same in other latin countries like Greece, Portugal, Croatia. It is for taxation as the governments seek to clamp down on undeclared revenues..

One obviously assumes all these orgs have methods to comply with the GDPR, which is probably hopeful. I never had to give bank details though, except the card N0 to make the payment/deposit.

was on the BBC news 02/12/24.

it read from december 2nd 2024 british travellers to spain will be required by law to provide 31 new pieces of information to there hotels and accommodation and car hire companys in what the spanish government describe as an effort to crack down on crime and tax evasion..

Thats all i know right now..

The government backed down from wanting bank details so that’s not required! The rest of the info is fairly standard the same as when you check in to a hotel

Completely agree, common practice for a while now in spain. I know the National Police raided a few hotels this summer where the hotels had not submitted the required documentation as requested by the ministry of the interior

I agree with the government

I am resident here in Spain

And keeps country safer and more

Profitable

The health system is magnificent

Shoplifters jailed

No dole ( unless you have worked 5 years )

No sewage in sea etc etc

So why not check who is coming into the country

It's not fact, there is no requirement to provide actual bank account details. What you may be getting confused with is that the accommodation has to report the"Method of payment" for example Accommodation voucher, credit card, bank transfer or cash.
