PDI places to eat

Hey

We are looking to head to PDI for our second time the end of February. Our last holiday we went All Inclusive, however, this time we are debating what will be better value.

Looking for recommendations for places to eat for lunch and evening meal with an idea of cost for main meal and a bottle of wine or a few beers ? What are the prices like for supermarkets the basics and alcohol please?

People who go self catering how much money do you take for one week ?

You can get a snack down at the AnexoIII bars like El Buccanero between €5-10 for a sandwich or burger and chips n

A beer is €3ish

El Poncho is a great steakhouse and a steak each and a bottle of wine will be around €60

Munich Bar in Cita does schnitzel and chips with a beer for €8

Chez Luigi do nice pork chops and chips for about €8ish

A pizza will be about €12-15

A pizza in the supermarket from €4 upward

Chicken breasts in the supermarket about €5 for 4

Most of the handy supermarkets are smallish unless you go to San Fernando and the prices are probably similar to small supermarkets at home

Wine in the supermarkets is practically free !

El Poncho is one you don't want to miss.

We have spent anywhere between £400 and £700 on meals and drinks for a week but it's possible to eat in and spend a lot less.

Have to agree with Chez Luigi’s and Mactearooms.

If you like watching sports while you eat try Game on bar in the Cita.

He does wonderful Dutch snack foods and his chips are amazing!

La cuidella is great for lunch. It’s a few doors down from tipsy hammock & mc Donald’s on the beachfront. Half a chicken & chips at lunchtime is 8 euros. Fillet steak in the evening is 22 euros. Wide range of dishes available. Many of the beachfront restaurants have similar prices but we found the food in la cuidella to be way nicer than a lot of the local competition.

Evening wise check out Savoy in Cita for an awesome little place and superb steak. Wapa Tapa in Yumbo is a must and a unique twist on tapas, you must book though so look them up before going or you won’t get in. Further on by Kasbah centre there is El Gaucho for a good steak and really nice romantic restaurant or round the other side to Torro, this place has a huge menu and pretty well priced.

Some of our go to’s…

Good vibes street food and cocktail bar on Avenida de Tirajana.

Adria upstairs in the Cita centre

Ritz in Yumbo (Italian)

Samsara in melonares for Asian fusion. Order one starter and one main between two people. Stunning restaurant.

If you’re there for a while and need a break from the resort, we very highly recommend La Cabanita Park restaurant. It’s a beautiful traditional canarian restaurant and just a short taxi ride just past aqualand. It’s our favourite by far and go once a week whilst there.

Forgot to say we always go self catering as we like a change of food and scenery.

Budget wise we aim for €100 per day for drinks, food and taxis. A few years ago it was ok and came home with a bit but now we find we have to throw a bit extra on the card. So maybe €120-130 a day. Ish..

Supermarkets.. depends which you go to. In resort, more expensive. Out, you have lower prices. We’ve seen cans of lager as little as €0.39, wines from €0.99 a litre and vodka €5.65 a litre. Obviously you can spend more for good brand names.

Portadown

For lunch we would recommend La Ciudadella, a few yards from the Tipsy Hammock. A half chicken and chips is €8. Paella is similar. For Chinese, try The Great World opposite Shenanigans. 2 starters, 2 sizzling main courses and a couple of beers for about €40. Royal steakhouse in the Yumbo is worth a try too x

Olive in the Cita is outstanding. We had the Tapas sharing plate for two, and it was honestly the best meal and best value meal we had over there. The friendliness of the staff and quality of drinks added to it. Can’t recommend highly enough.

El Poncho was overpriced in our opinion. Chips with the steak were very ordinary and greasy. Everything - veg and meat - was plastered in salt. Decent meal if is was half the price, but poor value.

Tipsy Hammock burgers were outstanding and a huge meal. We made the mistake of getting meat tapas plate to share to start, which is a meal in itself, so we were full when the brilliant burgers arrived and we rolled out of there after. Great vibe in there, perfect for stepping off the beach.

We went to La Ciudadela (bit beyond Tipsy Hammock) intending to get the 1/2 roast chicken based on recommendations on this thread, but when we got there we ordered the meat and fish Paella. It was decent solid food, nothing spectacular but very tasty and good value.

We think that the advice you were given is brilliant. We have been to all of these places and think they are great. However Fat Frank is now closed and Wolfgang the waiter now works next door at the pita place.

We ate at El Meson again last night, the lamb is still great and one of our friends loved the venison.

All good.

In our experience it’s usually some fruit based drink about 10% per of. Honey Rum is 20% and the brandy isn’t really a proper brandy (but still drinkable) at 30%. We did spend a lot there one night and a 4th bottle at 40% also appeared - I think it was a Grappa.
