According to a news article 120 fines were issued between January and July

The number of fines issued so far this year is X six compared to the total of 20 fines issued in all of 2022 and has doubled the 60 fines issued in 2021.

The majority of fines are for €150

They do not fine you, they just politely ask you to move on. To all those saying they fine you, how do you anticipate that they fine you apart from marching you to the nearest cash point that is, how d'a hell can they fine you???

York

We walked through on the path from Riu to Kiosk 7 and back yesterday and the dunes were busy either side of the paths. If they were really serious about protecting the area they would be where the Riu meets dunes...you can see about 50 people on the dunes in the restricted area, literally stepping over the rope by the dozen.

When the new rules first came in they were only patrolling in the mornings and if you saw them around you could leave quickly. Now they use drones which film anyone in the prohibited zone and at any time of the day.

Imagine drones making it easier to find people in "discreet' places.

Zurich. NOT London.

It's a restricted area to allow the flora and fauna to recover. It's the equivalent of a SSSI in the UK.

I live near a SSSI and we take the conservation of it seriously, with rangers patrolling etc. I really can't understand why people can't respect the rules, and allow the dunes to return to their natural state. There are plenty of other places to have sex.

We agree with this! Sadly far too many people keep walking over them. (Mostly locals) after lockdown they looked amazing. One week later they started to look like s**t again….

As for a post above, yes they do give fines (not enough if you ask me) they don’t send you to the bank. They take your details and you get a letter in the post and you have to pay the fine online. Just the same way you pay other fines. Last year they banned a German tourist for 6 months from the island due to been fined that many times.

Imagine bein stupid enough to even contemplate letting a ranger, yes a ranger try and fine you, never mind give them your 'real details' whilst standing somwhere in the dunes with absolutely zero identification. Unnreal ha ha ha ha ha

They are using drone footage in Cap d'Agde in Law Courts, and to a one they didn't know that they were being recorded. The drone footage must show the transgression (close enough to identify) and the context (wide shot). This usually amounts to at least 5/6 mins of footage.

If you don't or can't pay the fine and show ID in the area itself - a couple of things can happen - A Photograph and Fingerprint will be taken - if you fail to go to a local police station a warrant can be issued and served at a Border Control. This adds to the fine. Remember fines go on your personal information at Border Control areas including the act of evasion.

They may pop you in the police truck and take you to your hotel.

This is the future

If it was all this serious im sure they would patrol them in an all day period instead of having 2 or 3 rangers walking around for a maximum of 2 hours on random days, yes random days not every day as they'll not and can't be bothered.

That's why they are using Drones. They only need to walk about when they spot an infringement.

Yea. That will stop them walking up to you in person once they see on the drone you're not where you should be or doing what you shouldn't.

Totally agree, respect to the dunes should be shown. Although everyone seems to struggle with this in most beauty spots, we walked the coastal path near us and someone had stuck chewing gum to the rocks.

People just do what they want.

Not a very healthy view of conservation of the dunes

Doesn't matter if there are or there aren't. It's about conservation of the dunes not wether you night or might not get fined.

But locals have posted here about fines and they'd know
