GC media is reporting a marked rise in Covid cases in the Canary Islands.

Does anyone know if any restrictions are being re-introduced, such as limiting numbers in venues, earlier closing times and mask wearing etc.?

Would be good to hear from some GC residents

Some time ago when Covid-19 mutated into OMICRON, a less lethal version of the orginal strain, the WHO advised that we stop looking at the number of infections and start looking at hospitalisations.

The headline "Average virus infections are at levels typical for normal flu season and producing insignificant hospitalisations " doesn't sell newspapers so we still look at number of infections, which seem to be up in other places and hence not surprisingly GC as well.

Yes, the Canarian Government has raised alert levels for Tenerife, but there is no expectation to reintroduce restrictions unless hospitalisations rise significantly.

Right now we are experiencing the typical mid year lull in swinging tourism which has been in no way assisted by factors such as airport chaos, airline strikes, cost of living crisis and the war in Ukraine.

According to tourism bookings we expect the last quarter of this year to exceed that of the 2019 record tourist season. So unless something else comes along we are in for a busy time gradually building up from mid September
