PDI Level 4

South Shields

Just read an article on social media stating that Gran Canaria is moving to level 4 on Saturday night. Don't know what the implications will be, but no doubt it will be crap. We aren't too surprised though as over Christmas, the amount of tourists testing positive was phenomenal. But saying that, most folk reported the virus as being similar to man flu (life threatening for men,but a chill for women... )

"Midnight closing."

That wouldn't bother me as long as they opened earlier.

Please excuse our ignorance. What restrictions are in level 3 and level 4, regarding social distancing? Also where do masks have to be worn?

PDI 12-26th Nov 24

We were there in August 2021 and it was level 4

Places open 8 to midnight and we still had plenty of fun, in fact as there were fewer people around we made some very good friends we met most nights.

San Fernando, Gran Canaria

From Saturday at midnight Gran Canaria is in Level 4. A quick search will give more in depth information on this, but the main points are:

Hospitality had to close at midnight.

Only 33% capacity inside Hospitality places where there is no terrace, so this means alot of clubs will have this rule.

Covid-19 passports must still be shown to gain entry.

Masks on the streets, and when not eating or drinking.

No more than 4 none co-habiting people to a table.

2M space when sat at a bar.

No dancing allowed.

I don't know what the actual impact of the latest variant is in Grand Canaria on public health and their health care system? They seem to be going a different direction in terms of policy to this country and others.

Well I think it's a belt and braces situation in case the hospitals do get overwhelmed again. Hopefully won't be for too long.

Costa Blanca Spain...

I think for Spain as a whole this was inevitable.

In early November the daily infection rate was running at around 2,000 and the currently infected was around 50,000.

Now the daily rate is well over 100,000 and currently infected is over 3 million. Whether they are right or wrong remains to be seen but the government had to at least look like it was doing something.

I read on the BBC from medical sources that Omicron is now the dominant strain and nowhere near as serious as Covid 19. At least in UK.

The most likelihood for the vaccinated is akin to a heavy cold, apart from of course for people with other underlying problems.

I have even seen an article saying we could be approaching the endgame

The symptoms do seem to be milder, speaking as someone who has got it at the moment.

For me it was 48 hours of fever, shivering and sweating with a mild headache and some back/kidney pain. Tested positive on lateral flow and then PCR.

Most has gone now just left me with some mild back/kidney pain. For Mrs it was even less, 24 hours of fever and that was about it.

Now stuck at home in quarantine until next week.

Neither of us has had any respiratory difficulties at all.

When I was there in May at level 4. I thought people would head out earlier but nope. Secrets closed at midnight but didn't get busy until 10-1030.

End game for vaccinated yes. All of the patient's who occupy the intensive care unit where I work are unvaccinated delta variant. Which tells you two things. Get vaccinated and that omicron isn't the most severe variant. Transmissible yes but not as deadly.

Don’t know the situation in mainland Spain but in GC, the hospital is near capacity and that’s the main reason for level 4 here.

They’re in a difficult place and had to do something.
