I know we all have our favourite swinging clubs/bars to visit, but thought I’d knock up a thread to get some ideas on other things that people like to do/see on their annual pilgrimage to PDI.

If you can share any of your rituals, anecdotes etcetera, then you might be inspiring others.

To kick things off, one thing we do is get a 2 week pass at €30 for the mini golf. It’s about €7 a game so easily to get a ROI.

They have three venues in PDI (although only the Yumbo one was open last year), but it’s a great way to spend some time in the sun, add a bit of competition with the winner getting a nice reward.

What else are people getting up to?

This is a great idea and following with interest this thread as ill be over in less than 2 weeks!!! I can't bloody wait.

Ive had reccomend to me a whale and dolphin boat tour along with a visit to Porto Mogan.

We have been on a boat trip. Which was nice. We have contacts who organise day trips as well, not just boats, wine tasting, ATV rides, bespoke trips etc.

So much to do in PDI.

Mountains.

Lakes.

Beaches.

Waterfalls

Really is a paradise island.

I like this idea too. Last year was the first time we got on a bus, as the transfer company cancelled at the 11th hour.

We enjoyed it that much that we returned to the airport on the bus, which got us there in better time than our transfer, which usually adds an hour wait.

We like to do enduro mtb with Free Motion guided tours, they give an up lift to Pico de Las Nieves then ride back down to PDI. 44km long and 3300 metres of descent, along no more than goat tracks with lots of technical riding....superb day out.

Outdoor Cinema in Melanores. Nice two person sofas, cosy blankets,if the dew comes down, table service for food and drink. Nice relaxing evening before clubbing?

We hire a car and explore the mountains, takes a day if you stop and do the many walks. We then do east coast on another day. The coastline is brilliant and you can explore different places like Mogan.

Hire bikes to explore the local are but walking is just as good. You can walk for miles in either direction on the promenades.

Recommend the party Catamaran, so good we did it twice, lol.

The safari jeep tour up into the mountains goes the off road way so you get to see them in a different light. Totally recommend.

The tapas evening trip to Las Palmas takes you into the old town, then shops before going to authentic tapas bar. This is finished off by going to the beach area and bars. I think the tapas event is on a Thursday so you could just get a bus if you feel brave. We will next time now we have done it once. Tapas is really cheap. The cathedrals is worth a visit.

The 360° bar is worth a visit in Masplomas. Amazing authentic cocktails with incredible views.

Tipsy Hammock is also a great bar, it's situated on the front of PDI beach. I'd recommend booking as very popular. DJ on site but also live music. Great sax player when we visited.

Once you start exploring GC you'll realise it has more to offer that just the swinging scene and a beautiful island even though not very green.

Near Wells

Last winter I hired a motorbike and toured around the island for three days. It was absolutely wonderful.

As they say its like visiting three continents on one island.

I also use the local bus , there cheap on time and air conditioned, been all over the island , just get up take some water and explore somewhere different,the island is beautiful

Can’t agree more !! I will be doing similar next week but with road bike also from Free Motion and have hired a private guide !!

Jane will be flashing by the pool at The Palm Beach hotel, lol

Sounds brilliant we’ve seen the tours going but always taken road gear rather than mtb, last time I descended from 3300m the first 4km were in snow

We take some beers to kiosk-6 and have a little get together usually 4pm each day. Mix of nationalities. Come say hi and bring some beers... we are easy to see, music and laughter. Lol

We do like a game of mini golf, and we’ve walked from pdi to maspalomas along the shore many a time, the market is worth a visit, it’s at Morgan I think, but we do love a picnic on the beach with fellow swingers and always end up at the buccanero bar to sing, dance, and watch the world go by, oh and play spot the swingers

We love a trip to Las Palmas, Puerta Mogan & exploring places that tourists are not seen. We are very lucky, as I have kept in touch with my children’s first au-pair, for 26 years, who just happens to be from Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. We always set a day aside to meet up with her & see the parts of the Island that not many people experience. It’s a beautiful island above & beyond what we all love about Playa de Ingles!

We've done porto morgan by bus, great beach, restaurants bars and shops, lot of towns have market trader stalls depending on the day you go. Then take a boat taxi to peurto rico, same again bars etc.

There are plenty of beaches between playa and morgan, pick a beach and check local bus stops for the number bus you need. Its dead simple and i think its card payment only.

Last time I went the Wednesday was overcast and threatening to rain. So we asked the hotel receptionist "if you were going for tapas, where would you go? Not tourists" we ended up on an street with about 8 tapas bars that was definately not tourist, there were local businesses like a tyre and exhaust place opposite. The food was amazing and the prices were cheap, we spent all afternoon on a tapas crawl.

This would be Calle Partera Leonorita, which is in San Fernando. Probably a 5 minute walk from Eden.

This area without a doubt has the finest and most authentic Tapas Restaurants in PDI, Ibericos J Cruz and La Tapita Los Jose’s being possibly the best that we have visited.

Another notable choice in that area for those that like Chinese is Asia House. It’s an all you can eat buffet with a difference, in being that you choose your dishes from a menu and they cook everything fresh for you. From memory it’s 11.95€ per person and is excellent value for money considering the choice and quality of food.

Can definitely vouch for Asia House. Went last November and yes it was €11.95. Cooked fresh to order and very tasty.

Though they did charge extra for the banana fritter.

Still it’s on our to do again this year.

San Fernando, Gran Canaria

For us it's a drive to Teror for the Sunday market. Such a beautiful Spanish style village with stalls selling locally produced products. The atmosphere is amazing and food is really good and so cheap you wonder how they make a profit.

Also a drive around up north to San Andreas and then inland up to the reservoirs then back through the mountains. It's just breathtakingly beautiful.

Last year, an ex pat who recommended Asia House, also mentioned Miss Asia. I see it’s next door to Ibericos J Cruz.

Definitely going to have a wander down this street and this area a lot more this year.

It was all part of the trip so I can't remember sorry. It's in the old part of Las Palmas, not the side with the shopping centre. It's down a side street where all the locals gather, not touristy.

Last time we were over, we caught the bus to explore Las Palmas and Teror. Teror was so lovely, we really enjoyed walking around the market and sample the delights there. Beautiful place and super friendly locals

Planning on hiring bicycles (as we're keen cyclists) for our trips for planned for November and Christmas/New Year.

Will be following this thread with interest for more tips. Can't wait to be back xx

Every Thursday evening is the tapas day in Vegueta area in Las Palmas city. Mendizábal street is the main place with a lot of bars for tapas & wine or beer evening

For us, if it wasn't for swinging and nude beaches we wouldn't set foot in the place.

Cita centre is something like a post apocalyptic shopping centre, you could film in the basement without doing too much dressing on a post apocalyptic drama.

Don't get us wrong, love the swingers clubs and bars and like the seedy element of it but let's get real, it's a shit pit that should leveled and redeveloped.

But we love Cap D'Agde and that looks like a 1960's sink estate too.

The great thing for Cita is that it's not got any worse since Covid, even a plague couldn't do that.

It sounds like we hate the place, we don't we love it but we have to lie to friends about where we stay, usually tell them Puerto Mogan or the capital, which is a fab place.

Hopefully it will go from being seedy to dam right filth.
