Does anyone know if the Rapid Antigen covid test is acceptable for travel to return to the UK or does it need to be the PCR test ?

NHS tests are not acceptable. It must be a private PCR test

Zurich. NOT London.

It can be antigen, PCR or lateral flow as long as it meets the government guidelines.

From the government website;

You must make sure that the test provider you choose can meet the standards for pre-departure testing.

The test must meet performance standards of =97% specificity, =80% sensitivity at viral loads above 100,000 copies/ml.

This could include tests such as:

a nucleic acid test, including a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test or derivative technologies, including loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) tests

an antigen test, such as a test from a lateral flow device

It’s your responsibility to ensure the test meets the minimum standards for sensitivity, specificity and viral load details. You must check with your test provider that it meets those standards.

You may not be able to travel if the test does not meet these standards. It’s your responsibility to ensure you get the right test that meets the above requirements.

Thanks for your help the clinic I am looking at says either is suitable so it isn’t the NHS test but one done at a clinic in Spain with results in either 4 or 8 hours depending on which test

The Gov.uk web says both are permitted but I am concerned I show up with the wrong one

All a bit stressful which I suppose is the idea

The fast tests are being used at Faro Airport in Portugal for return flights to the UK, as long as it meets the requirements, it's good to go.
