"3 weeks time it will be reviewed again. And October is a long way away In reality though it seems very unlikely that we will be going abroad for some time " People can still go abroad but have to weigh up the extra costs etc. If for that person/those people it's worth it than they will go abroad regardless. Some people don't like StayCations. Or they don't want to buy a hot tub for their their garden and sit in that every night. It's a massive blow right now for everyone on the island but sooner or later people will be able to come over. Why not have SOMETHING to look forward to?

"The stats for GC must already be very close to what would justify green status. Three more weeks of a good trend is needed. The other thing is, that over the next couple of weeks it should become more clear as to whether the increase in infection rates is leading to a significant increase in hospitalisations. If both indicators look good, then a data driven decision would have to be green. Hopefully, it wont be influenced by all the negative scaremongerers and loud mouth politicians who would have us all locked in chains for ever." They want us spending ££££ in the UK and not abroad! Our numbers are low and falling everyday. 24,000 vaccines were administered yesterday as well. It was a shock we didn't 'go Green' today but in 3 more weeks who knows....?

The costs involved with testing, insurance and post holiday isolation are significant and how many working people are going to be able to get an extra ten days holiday for post isolation or want to isolate for ten days?

I voiced the very same thing on here 6 weeks ago that the government wanted us to spend £££’s and not €€€’s.........the problem is there’s no bloody accommodation to be had, everywhere is already full, vastly overpriced or is not worth consideration. Anyway we personally won’t get too disheartened just yet, our 4 weeks at La Mirage in August is still a possibility.

"Found this on the bbc website re amber countries isolation. How the Test to Release scheme works If you have been in a country or territory on the amber list in the 10 days before you arrive in England you must quarantine for 10 days on arrival. Under the Test to Release scheme you can choose to pay for a private COVID-19 test. If the result is negative, you can end your quarantine. You cannot take your Test to Release test until you have been in England for 5 full days. The scheme is voluntary and applies to those quarantining in England only. If you do not want to opt into the Test to Release scheme, you will need to quarantine for 10 days. You cannot take part in the scheme if you have been in or through a country or territory on the red list in the 10 days before you arrive in England." Test to release is not a new thing that’s just been brought in We’ve used it twice including Xmas from GC It just means you have only 5 days to isolate instead of 10 so those that have limited holiday days at work have to incorporate this when booking

"See you in 3 and a bit weeks. Extra tests, whatever. 10 days at home, working from home naked in the garden, whatever. If I have to book more flights via Dortmund or Zurich, whatever. FCO advice still doesn't exclude Canaries. We have both worked our arses off for the last 16 months, all over the world. Still coming to GC come hell or high water."

"Tests for day 2 and day 8 booked through Randox, £86 total. Doubled vaxed, so no test needed to fly out. I can add day 5 test for another £40 to end quarantine sooner if required. Cost of testing has come down quite a lot in comparison to what we were paying earlier this year. It also looks like bars, clubs etc will be allowed to open till 2am from June 18th. I've just read this in The Canarian, should anybody wish to check. 3 weeks today, we'll be there to check! " Hi there , so no need for a pcr test to fly out or when you arrive in GC ? Have I interpreted this right? Thanks in advance x

We're flying from Edinburgh with Ryanair on the 19th. Just trying to make sure I've done everything right so we can definitely fly. I know the rules are slightly different flying from here so if anyone is flying from Scotland and can help, that would be great. So... "There is a poster out there at the moment who had to provide a negative test, regardless, at his accommodation, so no harm in checking. This is what he posted:- Yes but everyone needs to be aware that even though government guidelines are there some accommodation still want it for ssfety. My accommodation wanted a pcr regardless of the travel laws. Best to contact hotels individually to get an update on their own policies" Depends how long ago it was written, the rules for vaccinated travellers were only relaxed last week on June 7th.

"Canary Islands The island chain, which include destinations such as Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria, has been a long-time favourite with Brits wanting to get some sun and sand. While it's currently classified as amber, its Covid rate of 38.4 (down from 34.7) and jab rate of 47.8 (up from 37.7) puts it on good footing. " I think that info is a little out of date. Current IA7 is over 42 and it looks like Tenerife may be going back to level 3 to try and slow the cases.

The IA7 for Tenerife is 68.81. So we just have one portion of the islands where the police clearly aren't enforcing Covid-19 measures. In theory it's easily fixed. Just apply the regulations that have been so effective in this part of the archipelago elsewhere.

Sounds about right to me..I think the cost of the tests is an issue for some especially if you are a family. Yes I agree I looked and a test in Spain is about £110 euros and day 2,5 and 8 here is c£150 per person so very expensive if a family is thinking of going ??" That really expensive! Tests in PDI are between 35 and 50€ and I paid £86 total for my day 2 and 8 tests, booked through my flight provider.

"When you have the PCR test in Spain 72 hours before you come home, if it is positive I presume you have to stay in Spain for ten days ? But then it is likely a subsequent test will also be positive ? My mother in law kept testing positive 8 weeks after she had Covid. How do you get home ? " Hmm...that could be a problem...

"Is it really as hard as it seems to visit Spain and return to UK a week later ? Forms filled in online to get in to Spain and again to get back into UK PCR test in Spain 72 hours before flight home Pre booked covid tests at day 2 and 8 and quarantine for ten days unless extra test at day 5 for early release Have I got this about right ? "Santa Cruz now has a higher infection rate than any city in Spain. Tenerife has an infection rate 8 times higher than Gran Canaria. Don't expect this to come down because the authorities have responded by increasing restrictions in bars etc. despite the fact that not one single infection has originated from these venues. It seems that the authorities are just imposing measures which are easiest to enforce rather than addressing cause. Pity that Covid-19 doesn't respond to PR exercises " I agree, 99% off all infections come from family reunions and not from the bars and restaurants. And people/residents can travel free in between the islands without test.... how stupid is that

"The United Kingdom will allow British citizens who are vaccinated to travel to destinations in amber in the European Union, as is the case of the Canary Islands, as of July 15, and not quarantine upon return. This was indicated by the president of the Federation of Hospitality and Tourism Entrepreneurs of Las Palmas (FEHT) , José María Mañaricua. As indicated, the United Kingdom has not yet made this decision public but it will do so in the coming days, according to Mañaricua from sources close to the British Government" Sorry, but how does some Spanish official have that news? It’s been rumoured but not confirmed and if Frau Merkel has her way…

"We are confident of our October and December holidays...vaccination is the key and the UK have the key most of the way into the lock " Just this El Hierro is the first island to reach 70% of the target population vaccinated against Covid with at least one dose, and are on target to achieve herd immunity in mid-July. The IA7 for El Hierro is 0.00. Overall vaccinations are progressing at about 25 000 to 35 000 per day which means it won't be long before all the Islands have at least 70% first dose. As most doses seem to be Pfizer, it is logical to assime that 21 days later this will translate to 70% of both doses. So we're looking at end of July for this target to be reached (ahead of mid August as was previously anticipated). So as much as it sounds like doom and gloom there is light at the end of the tunnel.
