Naturism in Spain (Threat?).

Costa Blanca Spain...

A few years ago San Pedro del Pinatar (Murcia region) banned naturism from all beaches within the municipality. Which included the popular Playas de Llana. At the time (and maybe still are) they were the only town hall in Spain to do so.

Most thought that it was a one off from a prudish town hall looking to deflect attention from its many other failings.

It caused a huge row and the Spanish naturist federation went as far as calling for a total boycott of the town.

Now it seems that Orihuela Costa (just up the road) is trying to do the same through the back door.

The only naturist beach on the costa (Cala Mosca) has now been officially designated as a dog beach (yeah yeah I know all the dogging jokes) which, although it doesn't ban naturism as such, will make life very difficult for sunbathers when such a small beach inevitably becomes a dog toilet.

I wonder if anyone has similar experiences in other parts of Spain where naturist beaches are being re-designated or naturism banned altogether?

Did know about the Murcia region G, but hadn’t heard of others possibly following suit. A bit pathetic really.

The San Pedro ban was 3 or 4 years ago but the new official dog beach at Cala Mosca has only been announced this week.

Problem is that it was never an official naturist beach. So theoretically the dog owners could complain about naked people (and I've a sneaking feeling that someone will) and then it will no longer be allowed to get naked there.

I hope I'm wrong but it's looking like the thin end of a very thick wedge.

I can't see any change on the Costa de Almeria area. If you have ever been to Vera Playa there a number of naturist hotels and developments and there's no way that will change.

Almante beach near Malaga on Saturday full naturists and families the guarda civil even turned up on Sunday to check that everyone was wearing nothing but masks

Alicante, Costa Blanca

Indeed San Pedro del Pinatar have banned topless and nudismo, to to the extream right wing ultra Catholic Popular Party in power in the local council. However, there are plenty of beaches around where you are perfectly safe from these bigots. Try Calblanque, El Portus near Cartagena or La Marina and Guardamar beaches near Torrevieja in Alicante
