At least people won’t have Boris to blame because they can’t go on holiday. This one can be firmly laid at the EU who have completely screwed up the vaccination programme. If they had procured enough vaccine and used it the level of infection in Europe would likely be much lower than in the UK. Instead they have blamed the UK and the vaccine providers and trashed the reputation of the AZ vaccine with no real evidence. I think Europe is in for a very difficult few months, let’s hope the vaccine protects us in the UK or we could be back to square one.

Yes

what Boris did say was that he saw no reason, at the moment, to deviate from the roadmap, so that sounds positive. However, it looks like it will take longer to decide what countries will be on what list in the traffic light system.

I think we'll be largely still in the dark, after the next announcement. That will explain what the rules are for each category, but I'd be amazed if any indication is given as to which category any country (or region of a country is in).

As the situation in many countries is rapidly evolving, it'll probably only be a few days before 17th May before the initial categories are released.

It could even be that, there will be no countries in the green category (really hope I'm being overly pessimistic here) at the start.

Yes, I think you are right. Things change so quickly...it will depend if people are able to quarantine, which will be a deciding factor for some, especially if it has the added expense of staying in a hotel.

I don’t see how he can give a definite answer next week. The number of Covid cases is changing massively week by week in Europe and although the number of cases in some of Spain is fairly low at the moment that could change very quickly

I suspect that on or just before 17th May Boris will say which ( if any) countries we can travel to and what the requirements ( testing etc) will be. The problem at the moment though is that the situation in Europe is changing so quickly travellers may well find themselves in lockdown abroad.

The other thing to consider is would you want to go when things first open up anyway. We have a place in Majorca and all of our friends there are saying don’t. Non of the big tourist attractions are opening until late June at best, most hotels and bars are staying closed until at least July and their lockdowns when they happen are far stricter than those in the UK.

Spain has had one lockdown and that’s it. That lockdown ended on the 2nd of May 2020. There is no plans to have an other lockdown and seen as the numbers across Spain is far better than the rest of Europe. I don’t think that’s going to change.

You might be right, but if as is being suggested travellers coming back into the UK will have to be tested both per departure and post departure even for countries on the green list ( which the boss of easy jet is claiming will cost £200 per person) that is going to add a lot of cost to a holiday. And what happens if your post departure test is positive? Presumably you will have to isolate abroad at your own cost for two weeks.

If that is the case they should be publicising it as we weren’t aware. Nevertheless there is still the cost of testing and the inconvenience and potential loss of earnings if you do test positive

I think it will be the cost of the tests, that will put some people off. If they accept the lateral flow tests, they will be cheaper, with a faster result.

We've decided that our early June booking was just a bit too optimistic, and have pushed it back to the end of June.

We jumped now, because prices could shoot up, once travel is allowed - especially if there is some movement on pre-departure testing.

We hope that this small delay allows whatever rules are put in place for travel to have settled down a little, and that generally things could be a bit better by then.

Maybe we are still being over optimistic, but we don't really want to move into the school holiday period, so it's either this or wait for our October booking.

Latest news:

Seven new points will be enabled in Tenerife before the end of this month | These point will have the capacity to vaccinate about 11.000 vaccines a day on the island.

This will become a mass vaccination center against the coronavirus. Before the end of April, the schedule set by the Health Administration to start up these large infrastructures throughout the Archipelago will be fulfilled.

The Government of the Canary Islands considers that, with the resources available to the autonomous community, between 25,000 and 30,000 daily doses can be supplied. In case of administering 25,000 doses a day, herd immunity would be achieved in 128 days (four months and eight days).

At this moment in the Canary Islands there are 109.212 people fully protected against Covid-19 while another 105.456 have received at least the first dose.

To acquire herd immunity off 70% of those vaccinated, the Canary Islands must vaccinate 1.871.033 people, something that they hope to achieve by the end of the summer.

And there we have it...Jet2 update, cancelled all holidays and flights up to 23rd June, so that's ours cancelled

At least we still have our booking in October so all is not lost just yet haha!

It's a really disappointing situation, but not really unexpected. Last week, we moved our dates back from early to late June. Venus star were brilliant, confirmed the change immediately, and just cost £40 extra for the Easyjet flights.

We're still hopeful, that these dates will work,although all the tests may cost more than the holiday.

We're also lucky, that we have good flexibility about adjusting time off work, so the option to move again may still be there. And as others have said - that is now a very well worn path.

Looks like it's just Jet2 who are cancelling. Easyjet(cheap) and TUI (not so cheap) are still selling flights for early June.

We'll know in a few weeks if Jet2 got it right or jumped the gun, but flights options still exist for those who want to go for it.

We cancelled some Easyjet flights recently and got a refund a few days later no problem at all. We've also re-arranged several holidays again - no problem at all.

Flight operators are reacting differently to the changing circumstances, but none of them are deliberately trying to pi** off their customers.

Hopefully your re-arranged holiday to GC won't be at at time as when we are there

Ryan air left us stranded. Easyjet are a good airline, we rearranged a flight, paid and the next day they cancelled, we spent six mouths chasing for our money. Sorry if it sounded horrible.

I'm not saying they perfect - and when they are bad they are very very bad. Maybe we;ve been lucky, but certainly without low cost airlines we wouldn't be able to have fun holidays in places like GC.

I hope you can find some alternate flights or dates, to still get away, and if it happened to be whilst we were there, we'd be happy to have a drink and say hi.

at the moment it is not busy with tourists, on the weekends the locals come to the south then it is good. slowly more tourists are coming but don't expect like it used to be and then you will still have a good holiday
