Having booked time off work in May and Europe looking less likely to be ready for visitors.

Our thoughts are, we may have to holiday in the uk, anywhere planning to be open then for like minded folks such as ourselves should the uk be back to normalish?

Still hoping we will be allowed to travel to Gran Canaria by the end of May when we to have time booked off.. but not booking anything for now! Wondering though if any long haul destinations like Mexico will be open and safe to travel to?

Otherwise UK it will be, possibly a canal barge or campavan to travel around in for a week or so and meet friends around the country ????

We cancelled our New Year break to Gran Canaria and moved last years deposit to Cap d'Agde to late June/July this year. Not sure if that will go ahead. Going to see what the spring brings before we make a final decision, unless the decision is made for us. Definitely hoping we can get holidays in the diary in the UK, so keeping a look out for fun opportunities, fingers crossed xx

Just a view but I think that to have any chance of travelling to Europe this year you will have needed to have had both vaccination jabs the second being three weeks before you go.

"Just a view but I think that to have any chance of travelling to Europe this year you will have needed to have had both vaccination jabs the second being three weeks before you go."

So it gets cancelled. However, if as the tourism minister for Spain is saying, people will be allowed without the vaccine providing they have a clear PCR test, I think I'll stick with his view for the moment, assuming your not also the Spanish Minister for Tourism?

Tests or no tests, I’ve a feeling the quarantine rules will be the clincher as to whether most people travel, let’s hope come May the quarantine rules are a lot more relaxed

We have still kept our flights and hotel open for Majorca in May despite Ironman cancelling the triathlon then. With no new date announced we are thinking, if allowed, to just go and do some training on the bike anyway. We'll have both had our second vaccine by then too. We realise everything will depend on the Majorcan government and their current state of play.

The interpretation of his words seems to be that if you can’t go now ( because you have a legitimate reason ) you won’t be able to go until 17th May at the earliest. Better than I expected to be honest.

Some of us have been constantly travelling internationally for work for the last year, test, fly, test, fly.

Just because you're in Scotland, don't get angry with us for having different rules. If they say it's safe to fly, I'm having a couple of weeks off in the sunshine.

There are already flights on the Internet which have capacity. Maybe it will take months to ramp backup upto close to pre covid levels but if the flights are there post 17th May then the airlines will want to fulfil them.

Various government officials have hinted that international travel may return on 17th May.

As someone who has covid antibodies and has received the covid jab. I'm thinking of rebooking my previously cancelled holiday for 17th May if allowed to do so.

Any others still have a holiday booked or plan on booking for May?

I have just read this morning that the powers to be are trying for the 17 May to open the airways but I am certain that not only the operators but clients too will exercise great care not only just for themselves but others too, Life has to go on?

It’s all well and good other countries accepting brits to come on holiday but will you still have to quarantine in a hotel on return from these high risk places. I’m not going to book anything untill it’s much clearer.

We can relate to how you feel - and hope you can get away as planned. We've got a week in PDI booked for early June, but we're not at all confident that the rules will have been sufficiently relaxed by then.

We are much more confident about October, and will no doubt try to sneak a week in during the Summer if June doesn't happen - and we doubt that we'll be the only ones.

It’s what Spain wanted to do. So it’s not saying you must of had the vaccine.

Spain and Greece have been going on about having some kind of passport. It’s called the digital green certificate. What it means is. They want to see if you have had the vaccine or you have had COVID and recovered from it. Or had a PCR test in the past 72 hours.

This looks like how they are going to restart tourism. Now the plan was to have it in from mid May. Now that’s still the plan. But reading inbetween the lines from this morning. It’s not looking like they will have it up and running by then. It’s more likely the 21st of June. Now why that date has been picked I don’t know. But I’m sure it’s not for no reason.....

Do remember it’s not just the EU in talks with each other. They have been saying all along “talks with international partners”

Sounds sensible and good news. I know we would feel safer travelling if that is the case. Personally though I don’t think anyone in the UK will be going on holiday from 21st June, September at earliest seems more likely.

Definitely hope so but now that we seem to have a reasonable level of control here at the moment the biggest risk is going to be variants. I think the UK government will want to wait until the school holidays are finished here so that travel is at a more reasonable level - and most of those travelling are likely to be older and vaccinated! For the Canariesit could very much depend on who is allowed to travel there, if travellers are allowed in from mainland Europe where Covid levels are much higher it could put an end to this year’s tourism completely

You make some good points - and maybe they are interdependent. I don't think that it will be one size fits all - when the blanket travel ban ends, it will be replaced with different rules depending on the situation in the country being visited. If a country has a high rate of Covid, or allows visitors from countries with a high rate without strict limitations (vaccinated, negative test etc.), then travel there will still have strict rules attached. On the other hand, if a country has low rates and good controls, then I would expect less restrictions - and earlier opportunity. Hopefully GC will be in the latter category.

- Do I have to wear mask at the beach?

YES. Previously masks were mandatory when going to the beach, and walking along the beach. Now they are mandatory when you are sunbathing regardless of distancing, except when swimming, not paddling, in the water. The same applies at complex pools.
