Zurich. NOT London.

I'm hopeful that it won't happen.

Also the news yesterday from our esteemed Canarian leader has got it wrong again. saying if you have the Antigen test you are ok for entry into the Canary Islands. Wrong he has no clout over the entry points ie Airports and Ports so get a PCR test done, only problem is that with Christmas the post is now buggered up, friends due to arrive today, not happening as Test kit did not arrive at the lab in 24 hours now 48 and still waiting. Shambles.

Not got the clout? The decree has been issued, it's in the mainstream media as law. If it's any different than this can you provide a link please.

I'm sorry your friends trusted the Xmas post, but that's the post here, nothing to do with needing a negative test result requirement of the islands. Lots of people are still managing to test without any problem and fly out.

its on the link gazettelife.com/news/

Lanzarote publication.

As I said it may be something the local people can pass and say but when it comes to getting in the airport and port authorities come under mainland government control, Hence no clout.

This is my understanding also. Immigration and customs at the airport are controlled by the mainland Spanish Government not the autonomous regions.

Zurich. NOT London.

This is why the rumours hit of the Canaries closing the borders. Apparently they have sealed the Canaries as a regional border which is allowable due to the state of alarm so they can take control of their own borders. More info below.

The regional government said it will take charge of controlling international arrivals in the archipelago, using the perimetral closure of the islands as a legal basis for doing so.

The regional government said it would pay for PCR or antigen tests for Canarian residents returning to the islands to spend the Christmas holiday

Sealing regional borders is permitted under the state of alarm that is currently in force, and which gives the country’s regions greater powers to restrict movement during the ongoing coronavirus crisis. In this case, however, the legal recourse will be used to facilitate access to the islands, which are just beginning their tourism high season, rather than to restrict it.

Zurich. NOT London.

And the BOC details.

The Boletin Official of the Canary Islands (BOC) yesterday published the long-awaited decree that allows international travellers to enter the islands as of today, accrediting a negative antigen test result instead of the more expensive PCR, the only test that the Government of Spain admits.

It was published in the BOC-S-2020-252 of December 9th 2020, and to ensure that the State does not block it, the Government of the Canary Islands has framed the decree in its decision to "close perimeter" of the autonomous community to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

Nevertheless the possibility remains that the Canary Islands may find themselves under pressure from, or in conflict with, the Spanish Government and the EU with regard to both the Antigen tests and Shengen rules.

I would generally support the Canaries in their desire to decide their own fate and for the benefit of all those planning to visit post 1st January as well as the business owners hope it all gets resolved.
