Give it a few days and they will be more widely available. I believe Manchester airport group, Stansted and Edinburgh airports are offering them already.

This is good news. I had my test Monday afternoon and my flight should have been tonight but delayed and now flying from East Midlands via Birmingham m tomoro so won’t get in til an hour before my 72 hours runs out. Good to have a back up option incase of a further delay

Noticed Biograd in Liverpool had increased Antigen tests to 79 quid each, PCR 99 each. Given what Liverpool Public Health has been saying about the LF Antigen tests, PCR a hell of a lot more accurate

Just be aware that there's been some debate as to whether this really is within the competence of the Canarian Government for two reasons - the ports and airports are not under their control and whether this falls under Health rather than the perimeter confinement.

If Madrid doesn't kick up a fuss in the next couple of days all should be good but personally I'd wait until the airlines say they accept PCR or antigen.

Edinburgh, Stansted and all the Manchester airport group airports are offering antigen testing. Give it a few days the other airports will start too.

I'll stick with my overnight antigen test for £79 at Heathrow, not worth taking the chance. Already booked for boxing day.

A word of caution. Madrid still has the authority to overrule the Canarian authorities as ports and airports come under central Spanish jurisdiction.

We're in the Canaries now. Let's see what happens in the next couple of days.

I thought the antigen test works if you had and recovered from COVID recently and developed the antibodies to fight it? Hence if you never had the virus, or had the virus a while ago, you would show negative on this test.

Whereas the PCR test confirms you don’t have COVID.

I cold be wrong.

When people say antigen testas opposed to PCR test they probably mean the rapid lateral flow test - like those pregancy tests - which have a lower accuracy rate, but are cheap and give a quick result.

The PCR test is also an antigen test - but it's the one that has to go to a lab for analysis and is more accurate.

There is a similar antigen test that tells you if you have had Covid.

The Lateral Flow Antigen test is to see if you have Covid when tested

We agree !! Sticking with our booked PCR tests ( antigen only if results of PCR get ‘lost ‘ or delayed !)

TESTING UPDATE

The BOC has been published so the rule starts tomorrow.

You can now come to the Canary Islands with an antigen or PCR test done in the 72 hours prior to arrival (it has to be a test with supporting documentation).

THESE TESTS ARE ALLLOWED

- PCR COVID-19 RT-PCR

- Rapid detection tests for SARS-CoV-2 antigen with a specificity of more than 97% and a sensitivity of more than 80%, approved by the medical authorities of an EU or EEA country.

The supporting documentation for the test must include the name, surname and passport number of the person who performs the test, the authorised health body or entity that performs the test, their contact details, type of test performed, type, brand and approval. of the test, if applicable, date and time of completion and test result. In the case of antigen tests, the approved specificity and sensitivity must be reflected.

You can also arrive and have an antigen test with 72 hours of arrival provided you isolate until your results arrive.

Or you can arrive with no test and isolate for 14 days.

So it seems like the antigen test is no longer acceptable (if it ever actually was)

Every thing I am reading says that only the PCR/TMA/LAMP tests will do.

If I have missed something then maybe someone could point me in the right direction.

Spot on! PCR, TMA and LAMP.

As the Canary Islands are so reliant on tourism anything that seems like it can be done to bring tourists back is jumped on, without the reasonableness test being applied (IMHO). Certain websites seem to amplify this with a gung-ho reporting.

I suppose one has to bear in mind too, that God forbid something happens to the plane on the way to Canaries from UK and it's diverted to mainland Spain or Portugal, people with antigen tests only would be in trouble as both countries currently demand more accurate tests for people arriving from high risk areas.

As a frequent flier to the canaries I have twice been diverted to faro and once to Bilbao. So it is possible although I never left the plane on these occasions .

My PCR overnight at Gatwick is £79. Manchester airport 24-48hour return PCR £99, LAMP £79 Antigen £49.

I had the £79 LAMP test at Manchester airport. Book time slot on line and turn up. Simple 3min swab up your nose and results emailed to you in 90 minutes along with a certificate showing result, date & time and passport number. Easy peasy.
