Gran Canaria is now the new migrant gateway to Europe and the UK.,, this hasn't appeared on the news. There are now over 11000 in camps and hotels on the south west area of the island. These are people from west Africa travelling in boats from the African coast, all males. One in ten die on the dangerous trip. 3 boats turned up in the last day or so.

It's a small island , can see this upsetting the balance of the island.

That's horrific. Can you imagine how bad things are that you'd be willing to accept a 1 in 10 chance of dying, only to end up in a makeshift camp.

It's actually quite widely reported, have look at some of the English speaking media outlets for the islands. A lot of Migrants were moved from the islands a couple of weeks ago, and several hundred were bussed from Arguinegin to Las Palmas last week.

Does anyone know exactly they're all staying? Thinking of buying a holiday home there too

It is a dreadful situation, the risk of lives, so many of died, even more we don't know about. The numbers hit 17 000 now. Half of which have arrived in the last month.

It happened in some of the med islands, don't know the answer.
