Still looks very quiet but slowly picking up nicely

Fingers crossed things are getting better for everyone

We are out there right now, typing this while sunning naked on a rooftop terrace.

It's very quiet, chain hotels are mostly shut, smaller places are open. A lot of bars are closed. Bigger places are shut as they need a lot of people to make them viable. Smaller bars are open.

Comeback and Imagine are open. Secrets is open some nights, not sure how that works with the rules out here but we are not risking covid or a €600 fine if it is raided and we are found to be breaking covid rules.

It is very quiet with restrictions on music, in the evening there is no sound coming from Yumbo or the PDI beachfront or the big RIU hotels. Dancing is banned (how very Footloose of them) so it is silent. This morning we sat listening the the sounds of parachutes opening and the shouts between tandem skydivers

The beaches are quiet no sunbeds and no kiosks open.

However. The sun is hot and the beer is cold.

By Jan it will be all changed so basically come out for a break in the sun and anything else is a bonus.

He in Gran Canaria it is good. Nice weather as usual, almost every thing is opened, just quieter as usual, but still nice here, and safe

Thanks for the info ... tbh its not the restrictions at the resort that worry me but the prospect of sitting on a plane for 4 hours with people who may be carriers of the virus ...

They have proposed to bring in the requirement of a negative test, before you travel to licensed accommodation, so that will help

It's not the plane that worries me, their deemed safe by way the air circulation works

I'd be more concerned about any restaurants,a pint glass a buffet breakfast is out of the question.. Or the worste worste worste situation.. Becoming ill over there.

What you gonna do?

Can't fly back ill

I know Spanish hospitals are possibley even better than UK but whoes going to pay?

Your insurance wont

Get your point, but they are worries here too. Their rates are far better than ours also. If you become Ill out there, they will pay for your treatment

That has been in operation for some time and you can get insurance cover now in this country. But it is a personal choice whether to travel or not

Am I the only person who regularly gets a cough or sore throat a day or two after being on a plane ... its not filtered and cleaned in my view, simply recirculated ... everyone breathing the same air over and over again.

Thats my belief anyway.

And there we have the problem, “…it’s not filtered and cleaned in my view”

Before taking any flight it might be worth doing 30 minutes of research to see if your view is actually based on anything!

The fact is, the air you breathe in flight is much cleaner than the air in restaurants, bars, stores or your best friend’s living room.

Commercial aircraft are fitted with High Efficiency Particulate Air filters (HEPA for short)

This means that the airflow mirrors the airflow of an operating theatre , with no crossover of air streams. Air is pumped from the ceiling into the cabin at a speed of 1 metre per second and then sucked out again below the window seats.

40% of the cabin’s air gets filtered this way and the remaining 60% is piped fresh from outside the plane. While the aircraft is cruising the cabin air is completely changed every three minutes.

Now it gets really technical: the HEPA filters block and capture 99.97% of airborne particles over 0.3 micron in size, so while the exhaled globules that carry SARS-CoV-2 can be quite small the HEPA filters effectively remove them from the air.

Of course this is hugely helped by all passengers wearing masks – particularly before the plane takes off.

Wearing a mask keeps your airborne saliva, and any virus in it, to yourself.

Final line : “Planes are actually safer than virtually any other confined space” (International Air Transport Association)

I guess that means placrs like Comeback, Imagine and Scandals Cinema.

I was out there last month and trust me , the airports and plane journey was out of this world , I never once felt like I was at risk , everyone played there part , as I’ve said before I feel more at risk being at work or at Tesco’s , we all have to live our life’s , but as long as we are careful nothing will go wrong

My my ... some people are aggressive on here... the definition of forum is " a place or medium for the expression of views and opinions" ... that's simply all I was doing ... not trying to persuade anyone to do anything they were not comfortable with ...

She was not aggressive in any way. All she did was give a very comprehensive explanation of how the air gets changed on an aircraft.

Either way its your personal choice to travel or not to travel.

It's not difficult.

If you have concerns about the journey then don't travel.

If you have concerns about maintaining distance then don't come.

If you are concerned about a possible return to quarantine then either plan ahead or don't come. We planned for a quarantine and laid in enough food for at least 2 weeks. We probably will self quarantine anyway. We have set aside 3 weeks leave for a week in the sun anyway.

Many places temperature test on entry, most places the staff wear masks all the time. Most places they make you use alcohol gel on entry. If you are concerned about that then book self caterering and eat in.

It is common to see taxi drivers wiping down the interior of the taxis.

With the number of people walking about here, social distancing is not difficult.

Make sure that your insurance covers you for quarantining and/or repatriation. If it does not then buy more, take a risk or don't come.

We are adults, you assess your attitude to risk, take the necessary steps and then either come or don't come.

I genuinely feel a lot safer here than at home. Our holiday is very different this time, we sit on the balcony, sun on the roof, eat out when the places are quietest and only mix (socially no play) with a small number of people.
