Spain ban on U.K. tourists ?

On this Spain forum there is a lot of discussion about infection rates of below 50 per 100k as being the benchmark for whether the German and U.K. authorities will allow returning travellers not to Quarantine. Even if you are retired and don’t need to quarantine but you fly to a country on the risk list I can’t imagine your insurance would be valid. My point though is surely at some point the Spanish authorities can’t allow planes to be landing and spilling out passengers from the U.K. where the rates are over 300 per 100k in some areas.

I don´t think Spain can afford not to allow them in to be honest. We live here and know the devastation that the virus has had on bar owners. Many of them have handed the keys back and gone back to the UK.

You can get insurance that covers you for travel even if it's against FCO advice. Just got myself such a policy so I can get over to Spain if needed (assuming Ryanair continues to fly no matter what...). It even includes covid cover

Have you seen the rates per 100k in some regions of spain? There was another mass exodus from madrid to the costas the other day.

Just remember that your Heath card is valid for emergency cover only not general stuff.

Using a EHIC even just for emergencies is like pulling teeth.Once the receptionist in any clinic realises its not private health care via insurance you want ( the gravy train) the eyes suddenly start rolling and the attitude changes immediately .

It's for any medical treatment,if you become Ill, whilst in the EU, not just emergencies

Got to agree with you there, the service we have had from the Spanish health service has been first class, we both speak Spanish Liz fluently, I am sure that is a plus point? we are in the campo not on the coast, attitudes are different here?

Your health card is for emergencies only (broken limb etc )

You must have also private health insurance

You will be treated but if not insured they will withhold passport until payment

Not true

"With an EHIC you can get medically necessary treatment in Spain on the same basis as a Spanish citizen. This means that you’ll get healthcare services for free or at a reduced cost." from government website

You do still need private health insurance, to cover you for things like repatriation, ehic will not cover you for that.

Wrong two years ago I had a filling fall out , receptionist told me of the local dentist in playa , went there , they put in a new filling asked me if I had the card , I showed them filled in a form and it cost me nothing , fantastic service ,

May I suggest you check on the Spanish region each one is different

I have a Spanish SIP card if you have an underlaying problem a private health insurance is required

A loose filling is not a recurring medical problem

A EHIC card gives you the same rights to health care as a regular spanish citizen. If that varies by region then you have a point ... I suspect spain doesn't.

When my husband had an accident and cut his head open, in PDI, an ambulance was called and we were taken to hospital, where he had stitches, they didn't want insurance or ehic card, excellent treatment too.

When my youngest damaged her eardrum on the first day of our holiday in Majorca the hotel directed us to the local medical centre. Not only was she seen by a doctor within 15 minutes of being there, he glanced at the EHIC card and simply told me to put it away. Five minutes later we left with medication that sorted her within 36 hours. Fantastic system and first class Doctors and nurses.

I don’t think the tourists are spilling out, last flight I was on from Malaga there were 25 people on the plane. Spain is desperate for tourists to visit and as long as you abide by their rules there won’t be a problem.

Going to Puerto Del Carmen Thursday for a while to “ work from home” just a different location as I did in August.

Just checked and it seems just fill in the medical form for the qr code and that’s it

Just returned from benidorm on wednesday tbh i felt safer out there as everyone wears a face mask unless they sat down drinking,eating or smoking & you can't smoke on the street if the pavements not more than 1.5m wide.

mind you it spoils your make up,lippy etc small price to pay i suppose,lol.

it was very busy with spanish people but very few brit holiday makers at moment.
