Is there anyone in the Malaga / la Cala region that can advise what it’s like at the moment regarding the covid situation? I am due going there in 2 weeks and pretty apprehensive about it - I have booked a private apartment as I believe it will be much quieter than a normal hotel resort for social distancing and the likes, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks .

SPAIN Malaga Benalmadena

Hi.

The situation in the south of Spain is not alarming, but even so, extreme precautions must be taken. Malaga is the area of Andalusia with the highest rate of Covid, but partly in logic because it is the one that registers the most movements of people in Summer.

There are restrictions imposed by the Government (As a summary: mandatory use of a mask, nightlife closed, restaurants close at 1:00, socal distance 1.5 meters), but in general (FOR THE MOMENT) everything is fine.

If you want to know something more specific, please ask.

Not many tourists around only Spanish which will change this week when they all go back to work you have to wear a mask every where when in restaurants you can sit at tables and be served at the table you then can take mask off the tables are a distance a part beaches you need to distance yourself apart from that normal if you do get caught in the street without a mask fines can be given suns out still nice and hot here enjoy

Resorts are very quiet , most of the Spanish have returned up north leaving a big void , lots of hotels are closing .

My friend has a very popular British restaurant and has laid off all his staff and now just running with family members his daily figures are down 80% on this time of year historically.

The police are very keen to hand out fines as the town halls are struggling for money .

The future for the area doesn't look good , i have lived here over 15 years each winter gets quieter and the coming one will be the final nail in the coffin for a lot of British businesses

If your looking for a quiet holiday youll be in luck , sorry for the doom and gloom but this is the feeling of all the British business owners.

I do not agree that the police sanction to get money. The police punish because people do not comply with the rules and do not wear the mask. Another debate is whether the mask is effective or not, but the rules are there to comply with them, and if the Spaniards do not touch our pockets, we do not comply with the rules ...

Tourism has dropped a lot (especially the British), so the most affected businesses are those that are focused on British tourists.

You do know that local police get a percentage of the fines they issue as a bonus on their wages and road blocks for motorists are always set up at the end or beginning of the month to balance the books

Caramba! Before the money was for the municipalities and now the money is for the police officers ...

Ok, okay, the police in Spain fine to make money. I don't even want to think about what happens in other countries more corrupt than Spain ...

France

Heard that numbers of foreign tourists in Spain was down 75% on last year.

That’s a huge hit.

We’re hoping things will be easier when we get there in November.

Went today.

Usual squad of gay cruisers, and a couple who wanted spectators/participants to pay up front.

Beach/dunes fun non existent.

Yep lived there 16 years and they are always looking for money at the end of the month so a big increase in road blocks at the end of the month.

"And people pay for that?"
