PDI September - update requests

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

We're looking for regular updates from locals, club/bar owners and visitors on PDI as just booked a 2 week self catering break for September.

Maybe a risk but not as risky as living in Cornwall now it's been flooded by visitors who think the virus stops at the border

Look forward to getting factual updates and not speculation.

Thank you xxx

We are here now but already looking to September as well as our usual jaunt in November...

We have been reporting as it is now on another thread but hopefully there will be more of a sense of normality come September - but truthfully, until people actually start coming back the the resorts etc (flights and hotels actually being open taken into consideration) there will not be a reason to open the clubs...

We know July and August are very quiet swinging wise anyhow over here and September is usually the start of the busy season for them... as long as the people come - then the clubs will be open...

The caveat being that the Canaries do not see a rise in number of cases again and decide to reverse the state of emergency and put more restrictions back in place... etc etc etc

Thank you guys for the update. We are booked for November but just need to escape the chaos in this county.

We're keeping our fingers crossed the beaches are open to sit on and hopefully the kiosks for a drink.

Enjoy your time there and may see you in September x

How are you finding the beaches , any social distancing requirements on beach eg cordoned off areas etc.

Are you having to wear masks whilst walking around

We intend to be there early September and trying self catering for first time so will be a challenge . Enjoy yourselves and any info you think is useful please let us know

Re the beaches - depends where you are on the island. Currently on PDI and Maspalomas beaches no sun beds are out - all stacked up and all beach kiosks closed - everyone spaced nicely though and no masks needed. Down in Amadores all sun beds out - nicely spaced and has been very busy this week when we have been down that way.

Currently masks must be worn on all public transport / taxis and is shops with some larger supermarkets taking your temperature on way in. When in restaurants and bars no need to ( all staff are - especially restaurants). No requirement to wear a mask when generally walking around - more so if in enclosed areas with many people - but very quiet at moment so not an issue.

Of course can change week by week at the moment but definitely not spoiling our time here

We flew Wizz air as Jet2 not flying last week... no duty free on Wizz air- but most if not all of their other destinations are within EU then that would probably be why... don’t see why not on Jet2 as one of their regular routes..

Incidentally, the duty free in the baggage claim area in Las Palmas airport was not open - but the spar (think it is) once you clear the baggies collection was and we managed to get some cheaper bits and pieces (alcohol) there.

On the plane are you allowed to take sandwiches and a drink and eat on board.

Between Edinburgh and Scottish Borders

We flew with Ryanair and they had food and drinks service. You are allowed to have your own food and drink. You can't drink alcohol not bought on the plane but juice or water are fine.

A friend in PDI has been told a bar he works in doesn't plan to open until October. Furlough payments cease end of September. He's assured me other bars and restaurants are slowly opening x

Our contact out in GC says everything is starting to open up. Also told that there is a rumour Secrets is opening on Friday, should be interesting when you look at guidelines for visiting island, masks to be worn if you break the 2 m gap lol.

Are you all aware that a form needs to be completed before entering country, google and you will find it. May decide it's not needed in September.

The form is a standard contact information details. Name, home address, hotel address etc, and on the other side some more covid related questions eg, have you been in close contact with someone displaying symptoms and so on.

We downloaded from the Ryanair website and prefilled to save time.

Once you get through the passport check there are a couple of tables with officials who will take and check the form.

Some people were doing this on an app (not too sure which one - think Spain tourism or something) and the officials would just scan the QR code.

It’s not too painful and only adds a couple of minutes to getting through the airport.

The update we got says that from Aug the form has to be complete on the app and the QR code show once you arrive at the airport.

We've had nothing from easyjet to tell us this needs to be done. Hopefully we'll get something before we fly. Thank you x

As you are not going until September - will probably be only a few days before as you cannot actually complete the form until 48 hrs before you travel because of the health questions - that is the online form - as we went a few weeks ago we completed both the online and a manual version to be safe - but as others have said - they are looking to go online only - of course - anything could change over the next 5 weeks or so - but that is situation as of today

Most of the clubs are opening but no playrooms and restricting numbers by reservations

Sounds like bars with expensive drinks, we will give them a miss this year and stick to the other "bars"
