E.K . Glasgow

Possibly still the most firefighter deaths in one time out with the 1st and 2nd world wars for the UK .

When I am called to duty, God,

Wherever flames may rage,

Give me strength to save a life,

Whatever be its age.

Help me embrace a little child

Before it is too late.

Or to save an older person

From the horror of that fate.

Enable me to be alert,

And hear the weakest shout,

And quickly and efficiently

To put the fire out.

I want to fill my calling,

To give the best in me,

To guard my friend and neighbour,

And protect their property.

And if according to your will

I must answer Death's call,

Bless with Your protecting hand,

My family one and all.

- unknown

RIP

I wasn't even aware of this one, i did know of the one along a cpl of streets in 1968, in james watt street, building had been used as a whisky bond and had steel bars on the windows, think 22 died in that one, terrible loss of life in both of them

Appreciate you making the post.

Yeah we all don't realise how lucky we are. Complaining about this lockdown carryon and stuff. People in the past have suffered terrible tradegys like those horrible deaths mentioned. Others including thousands of women and children in the UK alone are suffering today in other ways what with inequalities, no proper home, abuse & violence directed towards them. We should maybe all pause and think when we moan about a shortage of meets (shags,??)
