On a personal level or society general?

Just weeks ago social media had the #bekind all over it. Fast forward a few weeks and we see, on the face of it, widespread selfishness.

Will society change? Will you as a person change? Or will have any positive e.g stop smoking , learn a new skill

Yes most definitely, already noticing a massive shift for many people, being more self aware, friendlier to strangers, kids and adults alike actually being more aware than ever or hygiene, people who have let their houses and lives fall into disrepair suddenly see a new perspective and actively trying to clean up their act, and a greater sense of community, however there are always the selfish minorities the narcissists and those who think they are better than everyone, at the minute the alcohol problem is very apparent, but with lockdown imminent hopefully the drink dries up and folk realise they actually don't need to stockpile it and life without alcohol can be fun, kids and parents spending more time with each other, families suddenly picking up the phones to elderly relatives they've been too busy to remember, streets are cleaner and quieter for the time being, nature is seeing a shift and getting a breather from traffic pollution etc

I'd like to think that people will be kinder & more loving, that they will understand what it's like to have everything taken away from you that you depend on, understand what refugees partly face, that they have to look outwards into the wider community and appreciate others....some will, some sadly won't.

I'm hoping it encourages more people to take care of their personal hygiene.

That it reinforces the need to treat and pay our NHS properly.

That it binds us in communities and teaches our children respect kindness and the importance of helping those vulnerable aeound us.

And that many of us don't need to be tied to a desk in an office in a town. That companies can offer more flexibility to employees that can be trusted to work from home.

The hygiene part for definite - more hand sanitisers around different shops/cafes/pubs etc.

Manufacturing our own goods pay decent wages invest more in our NHS look after staff better and care homes etc look after what is important and be nicer to each other.

Lot's of friends helping each other out, going out their way to help people in society. Seeing lots of it.

The health concerns are not the main problem it's the economic damage that might lead to more deaths and despair. People need to push the government to help and not just benefits.

I think the same as most of the above, there will be good and bad in any situation. Some will put profit over people others will not. For most of us hopefully we will realise what we have or if you don't... make sure you do, it's never too late

being pessimistic - it wont change anything in the long run , the selfish idiots will still be there so after this is over they will still stock pile food when asda closes for one day of the year at xmas.

being optimistic - hopefully folk will make more use of their time and not just vegetate in front of netflix but enjoy the limited time outdoors be it for a walk or a cycle.

If anything it has just proven that all these arseholes posting about being kind etc are full of shit and Facebook and the likes of it are full of bullshitters more than I ever imagined.

This will bring about huge changes for our future and another possible huge recession. Such sad times we live in, I just hope we come out of this soon xx

Learn new hobbies

Grow some of your own food & plant flowers.

Fix & repair things you would normally have thrown out & bought a new one.

Finish off all those projects.

Each and every one of us, rich or poor work “the system” in some way, that’s human nature and I’d argue both should do better but... the rich have less of an excuse is my real feeling. Money can’t buy love or health but as the old saying goes, I’d rather be a sick rich man than a sick poor man...

I refuse to be pessimistic!!! I do know like in shawshank you have to wade through a tunnel of shite to find anything worth fighting for. The positives as you rightly point out might be the simple things! Hold fast to those you love, enjoy the things that bring you pleasure, do all the things you’ve been gonna do. Read that book, do that thing, message that old friend, go back to that old hobby, it’s a time of opportunity!!!!

I’ll eat fewer take aways, cook more home made meals, bake more and empty the freezer eventually.

I’m working from home so I’m saving petrol and travel time. Downside is not socialising and missing the quiz that I go to every week.

Less exercise unless I go out for a walk which is only around the supermarket aisles.

I’m in the house with my three adult kids so I’ll get some work done around the house. Not sure we’ll all still be talking in a few weeks time lol.

As for the panic buying it has to stop. People will end up throwing stuff out. They should be sharing it with neighbours who can’t get out.

I still think Boris should’ve been quicker to lock us down. Other countries have much better mortality rates than us and we’re treating it like a holiday. Companies will go bust and people will lose their jobs. The economy will take a decade to recover they say.

Not all bed blockers are elderly. Some are children and young adults who don’t have adapted houses for them to be able to live at home or don’t have people at home to look after them.

Already I’ve been out running more and everyone I meet says hi or waves or stops and chats (2 meters apart obvs)

It’s made me appreciate what I have more, I’ve gone from a decent wage to being on the dole..

Ehhh no it won’t, they’ve just moved the bed blockers out of acute care to primary care which means when this is all over the acute hospitals will get bed blockers again because there will be no primary care beds.

Hoping it’ll make Westminster realise how underfunded they left the nhs and they’ll ramp up pay and conditions for frontline staff (I doubt it’ll happen but you never know).

Lots of folk volunteering as well so hope that keeps up.

But as someone said arseholes will still be arseholes, what can you do

I think that society has changed anyway over the years and when Covid hit it showed just how people are now. Everyone has reacted differently, the non believers, the rule breakers, the ones who believe and stay safe to the people who have caught it and unfortunately died. This will bring reflection to every one of us in one way or another. When we do come out of this, going forward people will move on in their own way but maybe, hopefully we'll think more of others. I live in hope anyway but it's going to take a hell of a lot of work to deal with devastating effect it's had on our mental health x

The Spanish flu of 1919/20 brought about us having lady doctors as before that pandemic there were none.

it could be that our town centers change from retail to social spaces, or offices are a thing of the past as WFH becomes he way ahead (costs of running an office reduced for employers!)

I dont think it did nearly break the NHS .

Look at the rapidly built hospitals that were hardly used. Yes they were strained and yes they did a great job and yes it highlighted issues like ppe and ventilators but don't think it was as bad as it could have been , not by a long chalk.

I dont think it did nearly break the NHS .

Agreed there were areas of NHS that were stretched and staff exhausted but there were other areas where wards were empty and staff were sitting in lounge areas/break out areas having extended breaks enjoying the freebies being delivered to them

There were parts of the NHS where they reduced or stopped their services but employees weren't redeployed, same as council services where some staff were furloughed for the best part of the year with their 80% topped up, definitely not the best use of resources. Obviously these are management issues not employees but until they start listening to the workers and more effectively organising resources then we won’t see great changes.

When I was getting my vaccine a few weeks ago. Middle aged guy in front of me was telling the nurses covid was here to stay as his pal hacked into the wuhan computer and he has seen the documents forecasting spread and death numbers in billions. Documents were translated in Israel to English. Also claims the flu has been eradicated as covid eats flu.

And scientists make mistakes and get facts wrong and sometimes for monetary gain. I don’t disagree entirely with your point but I remember the scare over the MMR vaccine which meant lots of mums didn’t get their babies vaccinated and measles started to become more common again. Measles is a very deadly illness especially in babies. Life is full of risk, all any of us can do is make the best choices we can.
