Bars still open...

Bars and entertainment venues flaunting the request to close.

Police can’t enforce it as there is currently no legislation in place.

FM will introduce emergency powers in the next few days forcing them to comply and giving police the powers to close them.

Thoughts ?

All the police can do and have been doing is advising patrons and owners on why they should comply with the request.

I mean seriously they need to advise given what’s going on.

Bars open are irisponsable.

I'm in the industry and decided on Thursday, that we would cease on-sales at the venue I manage on Friday. This was before the government made its call.

Fridays we are packed out and I spoke to the owner and convinced him that we couldn't guarantee minimising the risk to our staff and customers.

I understand that this is an unprecedented challenge for our industry and some venues are facing the prospect of permanent closure; resulting in loss of livelihood and bankruptcy. But opening after being told that it's a serious risk to bot just people who visit your venue but the people they will interact with over coming days.

Extreme but I would question if these operators should be allowed to keep their personal licenses, if they continue to stay open during this time.

Once again I known this is an impossibly hard and I don't fully trust that the government will help us, untill they do. Hopefully they will do the right thing and save a corner stone of our economy.

The landlords/ladies not heeding the advice should have their licences revoked and be banned from running pubs for life

You are right one of the goals of the licence is public health and safety

Could the actual premises be barred from a liquor licence as well ?

In theory but less likely as venue license are granted less often and in some areas have a limit and are tied to the building but you do need a person with a personal license to act as premises license holder to operate. It's more likely that a venue would be taken on by a new licence holder after all this rather than have it removed from the registry.

That was my inkling that someone else would just take the licence once this all blows over.

I thought maybe if the actual premises wouldn’t be granted a licence then that would be nipped in bud.

Stirling

Under the scottish licensing act, police can close a licensed premise for 24hours. And this can enforced multiple times until the appropriate legislation is brought in. Any premise would be stupid not to have closed by now as they are only affecting safety and there chances of having a future personal license

Embarrassing. And anyone who feels the need to go to a pub , who have all been advised to close but none the less choose to stay open should be embarrassed too . But that’s the stupid stubborn selfish mentality of knuckle draggers . Putting lives at risk because they can’t cope with real life without staring at the bottom of a glass . Fkin sad
