However, there is a consideration for the vulnerable... foe example I’m In the AULD category so should consider staying at home... not too auld to work till I’m 67 before I get my pension though

Unless you self isolate now. And stay that way then there is a very good chance you are getting it. How your body deals with it will be the main thing.

On which day? Worldwide there have been 4,635 deaths and there are currently 126,414 cases of Corona Virus.

20 days ago Italy had 2 cases, now they have 12000. That is how fast this is spreading. This is just the start of a pandemic.

It’s believed the spread had begun weeks ago in Italy as the virus went undetected in the north where the place was full of skiers are, look at the culture as well Italians have a close touchy-feely way of doing things we don’t.

This thing has been on the go longer than anyone knows it’s only because a large group of people in the one country have been affected that someone has realised it’s the same virus.

Anyway back to the OP everyone forgets the spread is airborne simple solution, girls/guys dig the knee pads out it’s doggy style season lol

Your list above is completely pointless and irrelevant. The illnesses you have listed have known treatments and vaccines. Coronavirus has only been around for 2-3 months and a vaccine is believed to be a year away from being available.

Healthy people will contract COVID-19 and carry it for a period off time, possibly indefinitely but just because it won’t affect them in any great way doesn’t mean they can’t pass it on to the elderly and vulnerable.

You may be fit and healthy but this isn’t about you, me or any other individual. It’s about your elderly neighbour, a friend who’s immune system is shattered to bits due to chemotherapy, a random person on the bus who’s diabetic, your parents, aunties, uncles who are of a certain age.

Your ignorance and irresponsibility holds no bounds

Good mormong aren't we a happy and cheery bunch

Well I'm not going daffy ove rit but neither am I completely ignoring it, for most of us the exposure to it early on I suppose would be am advantage to build up an immunity to it but viruses can and do lie dormant for years in people, we don't know yet if this is something that can attach itself yet, like any virus it has the ability to mutate and get stronger, I've not got the best immune system and I generally catch everything going but don't experience bad symptoms, my daughter however si asthmatic and her and her brother both have throat infections and the cold right now so they are both succeptable to picking up something more serious, whilst I'm not going to completely isolate myself or the family I am. Excouraging them to be a bit more vigilant with their hygiene and drinking plenty of fluids etc

If it’s viral then as far as I’m led to believe then like a whole range of different things like chickenpox, measles, glandular fever and herpes(which covers a wide range of things which almost everyone carries) etc etc then if you contract it then your body starts fighting it and builds up your immune system to it but you carry it for the rest of your life and are able to pass it on

Not all viral illnesses will be carried and transferred for life thankfully. We'd never be able to leave our home if that was the case.

Yes covid 19 is ridiculously contagious and dangerous for a very small percentage of the population, but you're talking about a flu bug. Once it's out of your system it won't linger forever without you knowing it x

Some sense finally ! People seem to like comparing it to flu which has a vaccine to help the high risk groups. Covid 19 does not !

We’re keeping going out in public places to a minimum for the time being.

Look at how hong kong, Korea etc dealt with this....they shutdown really quickly because they knew how bad this could be, and they've had less cases in the 2 months than the UK had had in 2 weeks.

Irish schools and colleges shutting from tonight.

We are next....but of course swinging clubs will stay open because no bodily fluids exchanged there....

It's not just elderly at risk, adults and children with asthma, recovering from chemo, those prone to catching colds and flus regularly , those on medication and so on are immune compromised.

In UK alone the amount of people on medication is astounding, when taking medication you immune system is weakened so all that think you are healthy but on medication I'd be carefull and take precautions.

Those who get flu vaccines, you'll be vaccinated for a older flu strain and chance the vaccine will have compromised your immune system making you more prone to catching it.

I don't watch the stupid news or listen to government bullshit but with any virus there is always risks and its up to us the people to think about others too. Like the kids who are sick, our parents /grandparents who are elderly and keep from passing our germs as the healthy can be carriers.

Life shouldn't stop but if you don't feel 100% then you shouldnt go out and mix with people. It's common sense to prevent the spread.

Common sense is vital here as it is a pandemic which means it's not just a wee silly flu virus with a vaccine. There is No vaccine and if your kid, mother father or even yourself gets sick, you can't go to drs, chemist, hospital until you are basically at deaths door. That's the nature of this virus. Common sense people.

My irresponsibility??? Oh really!!!! Think spouting that healthy people are carrying it indefinitely is more ignorant!!! Go read WHO Covid19 guidelines and come back! This is like MERS/SARS/H1N1/avian flu.

Covid19 is in fact, if you care to go look at the statistics, not as prevalent as H1N1 was!

The vast majority of the Gen pop are fit and healthy and will have no more than a mild flu like reaction. Most positive cases in uk are isolated in their home environment being monitored from a distance by HP services.

What is irresponsible is perpetuating lies generated by SM & broadsheets

That isn't the point though.

Apart from the fact that it's much more dangerous than flu and that you can have it an spread it for 5 days with no symptoms, the whole point is to prevent large numbers of the population from getting it at the same time.

If 10,000 people all have it at the same time and need hospital treatment then the NHS will collapse.

If 10,000 have it over 3 months then it will be more manageable.

Cjs parties will still be going ahead and extra measures have been put in place to reduce any risks.

Hand sanitiser dispensers have been placed on the wall at the entrance outside the cloakroom, at the top of the stairs before you enter playrooms and in the kitchen area. We are asking guests to please make use of these along with washing your hands before and after play.

We will be restricting parties to less than 100 guests until further notice.

Swing safe as always.

Scarey stuff. Well drs are not seeing patients where we live as even if not related to virus no ine getting seen, my son has a sore ear drum and hearing has faded but been ongoing for a while and drs told him even though otherwise he's healthy they can't take risk and see him . So to basically deal with something that could get worse if not checked, they refused him. Hes never been sick in his 22 years, good healthy guy but there you go the place has gone mad

I've asked a friend who is in a senior position in an NHS board about a family member with lung issues self-isolating now before it's official policy. Her advice was to avoid public places as much as possible. She's usually the first to pour scorn on wild, random health scares, so if she's concerned, I am.

Yes when schools are closing and drs are refusing to treat patients of unrelated illnesses then bells should ring. As drs don't refuse to treat someone with the flu infact they encourage those with flu to go to drs surgery for jabs and medication. So when drs are refusing patients due to this then that is worrying.

25000 per day die from starvation, not worried about a flu virus.

Wash your hands with soap & water as your mother taught you.

We watched the announcement today and the thing that struck us more than anything was the Prime Minister (as much as he is a numpty) and then the Chief Scientific Officer both telling us that this is not seasonal flu. Seasonal flu has people who have built up immunities.

No one has the immunities for COVid-19. By that logic, the survivors will have some sort of immunity for next years outbreak, which may have mutated by then.

We all need to be safe. For the kids, the elderly and those who have other illnesses.

I don't understand why swing clubs are telling people they'll have extra hand gel and it'll all be OK as a result.

Do they not understand the nature of infection? Close bodily contact will be fine if you wash your hands......errr.....no, that's not how this works at all.

Clubs want to stay open for one reason only - revenue.

I’m reasonably fit and healthy. IF I contract it I should be healthy enough to fight it off myself.

However, I would be worried about anyone with a health condition and the elderly.

Whilst I’m not panicking, I am taking sensible precautions.

Making sure I wash my hands more frequently.

Wearing gloves for work - I move cages around that have potentially been handled by more than 20 people in the previous 48 hours.

Using hand gel provided at work

Not touching my face

Staying away from anyone who may potentially be at risk so as not to worry them.

BUT - that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t help get supplies for an elderly neighbour if they needed them and were worried about going to the supermarket. I would take sensible precautions though and try to minimise contact even though I’m fit and healthy.

I’m also avoiding going to the pub or out in general for now simply because I don’t really want to put myself at unnecessary risk.

Andy

I think that’s wise - but not because anyone would think your got it.

If you’ve already got a chest infection, it MAY make you more susceptible to catching something else and why chance it?

Stay home, bottle of something nice and put your feet up

it is not when u will catch it

it is about how many catch at the same time

i am from italy, doctor friends are working 27h/7 and there is no enough stuff and intensive care beds for everyone

apparently it is not true it is inly bad for elderly

as above situation leads to selection of who they give ventilators according with your chances of surviving...

I would avoid contacts as much as possible to delay the peak of spread and hopefully contain

The government said the UK will peak in 10-14 weeks time and at that point, they my reckon up to 50% of people will have tested positive for the virus. What we see now is just the start of it. It’s definitely making me think differently. And I still see people not washing their hands after they’ve been to the loo!!

"Deaths per day worldwide

Tuberculosis 3014

Hep b 2430

Malaria 2002

Seasonal flu 1027

COVID 19 = 56!!!!

The list goes on .... yet no one is freaking out about catching TB/Hep b/ Malaria etc

On which day? Worldwide there have been 4,635 deaths and there are currently 126,414 cases of Corona Virus.

20 days ago Italy had 2 cases, now they have 12000. That is how fast this is spreading. This is just the start of a pandemic. "

People have recovered too so not actually that many active cases.

No one is dying from corona virus itself it pneumonia obviously the virus is the cause but not the reason.

Corona virus is just like an very bad asthma attack. It attacks lungs. When the lungs over work and becomes inflamed and then inflammation leaks causing fluid in lungs causing pneumonia, younger people are more likely to fight this where as the elderly are not

So oxygen is the only help anyone will get when going to hospital. So keep the lungs good. And sip waters and juices no gulping as need to keep those lungs good .

Dont use bleach in homes as it attacks the lungs if too strong rather detol, soap and water isn't gonna cut it, dispose of toilet tissue in the toilet, not bin as germs still linger . Everyone's job is to keep yours and family's lungs strong. Reduce smoking if smoker, dont smoke near kids, if you have asthma don't use pumps daily as this weakens your immune system, use only when needed.

Self isolate if u or family have cough cold. It's pretty simple and doesn't hurt to stock up on vitamins as these will boost immunity aswell as eating healthy. Ditch the take aways.
